Regarding the Maignan transfer not being done, wonder if Sanchez didn't agree to be the #2 and thats why the club didn't push (even though they've been actively negotiating with Dortmund for ex-City boy Gittens).

Its a shame that he misses the game but I'm also happy to see him get a breather as we'll need him fit for the long season ahead 😆 Time to see Maresca's management skills in action without Caicedo running around like a mad man. Hopefully between Essugo/Santos/Lavia, they can cover midfield for 1 game

His future pathway is just like any other talented youngster, go on loan and show your talents and if you are good enough, you may come back into the first team. If Paez was expecting to walk into the Chelsea first team, then he was either sold the wrong message or he's got a massive ego and he'll probably be running off to a Spanish/Portuguese club in a season or two. As for goalkeeper, I don't see any stockpiling of talent, it was clear that Petrovic wouldn't be the #1 this season and thats why they mutually agreed to keep him out of the CWC squad. The weird part is, no-one has really come in for him, even though he did relatively well in Ligue 1 last season. Maignan was our only shot at fixing the GK situation and at least getting a good keeper in for 2-3 seasons and in the meantime Penders would develop on loan with a view to first team football. Now we're stuck with Sanchez for this season.

Exactly, it's clear that we need a proper CB, GK and backup LB heading into next season and yet there are no serious links to any of those positions. I'm surprised that the club hasn't bid on Guehi at Palace (hope he doesn't get signed by Liverpool).

I could see by the lineup, it was mix and match. Good to see Caicedo, Cucurella get a breather for once and Josh got a start. Would have been great to see more minutes for Santos, at least he got a 25 minute cameo.

I thought Almada was on loan at Lyon from his Brazilian club with a view to permanent deal (iirc) He's got the tools to be a very nice attacking mid.

But there will be posters on this forum who absolutely love Sanchez and can't understand why he gets criticized by the media and pundits. We really went from Cech and Courtois to Brighton's 3rd choice keeper 😆

This is what happens when you stockpile talent without a plan.... Better to focus on quality than trying to sign 10 random south american youngsters and hope that one of them pans out for a nice profit. 😆
