First of all let me clear something. MOURINHO AND BENITEZ DONT PLAY THE SAME TACTICS, THEIR STYLE OF PLAY IS MASSIVELY DIFFERENT. Once you understand that, we can move on. Benitez defends differently from mourinho, benitez doesnt like his attacking midfielder defending more than his wingers so thats why it becomes 4-4-1-1(wingers become beside the pivot) while mourinho likes his attacking midfielder to defend more than the wingers and make it like a 4-3-3.(attacking midfielder becomes close to the pivot)

Because he was the best player in a 4-4-1-1 system under benitez. Where he never needed to defend so it suited his attacking play well. But now, we have a new coach who plays a 4-2-1-3 system. Because of this system, anyone in the middle will be closer to the pivot. Mata is not used to that yet, but he'll soon adapt to it. Mourinho doesnt need to play benitez style because it suits mata, mata just has to adapt to mourinho's system and he will do it soon.

The problem people dont understand is that, benitez and mourinho use completely different systems. Benitez used more of 4-4-1-1 with mata behind torres. This meant that mata never needed to defend much since 4 people were directly behind him. But now Mourinho uses 4-2-1-3 where the AM is closer to the pivot than the wingers. This meas that the AM have to defend more because they are needed to keep the midfield compact. What do people want mourinho to do? Do they want him to change his tactics to benitez own because it suits mata? All mourinho wants is for mata to adjust to the new tactics. And i know he said this in public to motivate mata to play better, he used it on benzema and it worked a lot.

Mou always like being compact in the middle and have fast wingers on the flanks. So mou wants mata to develop his defensive side to help the team to be compact. (see how brazil play) I just wish mou didnt say this in public though.

Oscar needs more runners on the flanks if he is to flourish, just like how brazil plays. Neymar hugs the flanks, hazard should emulate him and shurrle > hulk. The only problem is if lampard can provide the energy paulinho brings to the midfield and we're set for total brazilian football

Mourinho made a really bold statement saying he prefers oscar over mata. I know he admires the way brazil play, compact in the middle and deadly on the flanks with counter attacking style. But to do that he has to tell cole and ivanovic to step up their attacking game and lampard cannot provide the energy that brazil pivot (gustavo and paulinho) provide.
