  1. manager will need to rotate everyone on yellow quickly
  2. A top-shelf performance against the wolves. On top of his usual high energy and urgency, he also displayed quick feet, and especially vision by adding a couple of assists to his tally. He's going to be difficult to deal with if he carries this form to Qatar.
  3. indeed! Reece James has no weakness, which is extremely rare in football. I'd say his only challenge has been the occasional injury, but what a player!
  4. Yeah that's why it's called a bet. You know who wasn't a bet and also was a world beater? Haaland and he wasn't attainable. Regarding Werner, I think I'd side with facts over fiction on that one; that "other player" the who'd "have done so much better" did not actually play did he?
  5. Would someone please remind me why we couldn't land Nkunku in the previous window? I mean we landed everyone else! I'm not a fan of the Abu deal.... It's just that we already know him and he's got second tier written all over. Now, Nkunku, that's a bet that makes sense just as Werner too made sense. Werner "did not work" poor us with our CL trophy. That's how you compete against folks with more investment capacity: by being creative and making educated bets.
  6. The big question is: what exactly a ManU manager has to do to get the boot? What a quack! 😃 Also, what on earth did they go after Christensen?! Never really a great, but good player for a tottenham counterattacking side, but now he looks like a proper retiree.
  7. Good game against Palace. Guy is quality and not yet playing at his best, which is yet to come.
  8. Much rather see Grealish in there instead of mount... too much of a big game player for my Brazilian taste. 😉 Still can't believe we moved kai around just to accommodate freaking Lukaku.
  9. He had a pretty unremarkable stint at All Minerio in Brazil. Hulk was the star player there and remained so. Costa started a few games, but he ended up sitting on the bench more often than not. There was also rumor saying he was a disruptive figure in the locker room. I'm surprised he's back in the PL.
  10. Pretty much a straight striker swap then. 😉 the only difference is that one of them thought he was an LB.
  11. Makes sense. On the other hand, Jesus is basically a false 9 and has played just as much as a winger. I find it strange because on paper it seems Jesus would fit Tuchel's game perfectly. 🤷‍♂️
  12. And he was OK with Abu who'd be more like Lukaku (pure 9) than Jesus? does not make a lot of sense.
  13. the sampling size here is a bit small to say the least? are we going to sign every manager who wins a game against us? 2 games? 3 does the trick then That sounds like a fantastic incentive to all aspiring managers! Win 3 matches against Chelsea and you will become a new millionaire Chelsea manager! 😃
  14. fair enough, so the clear step missing here is the mid-size club. And Chelsea was also the second big club for Tuchel. It usually makes a huge difference in the interaction with players as alluded so by others here. Anyway, it's done deal, so now just hope the gamble works to some degree.
  15. Sorry I don't think their resumes are comparable 2015–2017 Borussia Dortmund 2018–2020 Paris Saint-Germain 2021–2022 Chelsea
  16. Tuchel immediately saw the obvious: that this squad couldn't play as equals against the other big clubs esp in CL. So, he made the team "run like dogs" (not only Werner) so to be able to match up with the top sides who have more quality than us, esp up front. It's very difficult to keep running rich-entitled footballers into the ground. They eventually grow to dislike the person demanding sacrifices, the man in charge. This is not much different from what happened with Mourinho, for ex. I guess that is why Pep and Klopp are the top managers out there -- they keep players happy and engaged and still demand sacrifices. Unfortunately, I agree with Tuchel in that that's the only way this team could have won. Now, with the loss of key players and questionable replacements, I don't think this team can be competitive at all.... top 4 is the only "silverware" that is attainable -- maybe a cup? The new manager is a nobody... it used to take some level of success for managers to get a shot at a big club. That does not mean he will fail, but does make it a huge gamble.
  17. That's the crux of the matter right there and a downgrade any way you look at it.
  18. Ruthlessness is when we want to make harsh stupid decisions sound cool and edgy. Still makes no sense to upend work over and over again… sorry if you don’t see that then you don’t really know how “football” is made. the most successful clubs in the world simply do not roll that way. And that’s for a very good reason.
  19. This was a good one in the tuchel sacking article on bbc fuzzball: “I know Aubamayang is a disruptive influence, but that was quick!” good job Auba! 👏
  20. It's a win. Players will show everybody that "they were not the problem" for a couple/few games then return to their norm, which is not going to be good enough this season, I'm afraid.
  21. Not entirely true is it? the threshold at Chelsea seems to be unique amongst the big clubs in the PL. Liverpool understood Klopp when he lost VVD for a season and ended up chasing nothing. Reckon what happen at Chelsea was far worse than that considering it *also* included losing a key player.
  22. Hmm wasn't this about Tuchel not getting the results? Now we have many folks saying we will get a coach to build? Don't we have an all star team? If we do, then there is no need to build. We need a tactical expert and motivator to get results. If we don't, which I'm pretty sure of, this is going to be a long term deal and good results won't come right away. I'm with @Henrique -- it's just a billionaire showing off.
  23. That's far more plausible. 👍 Completely agree and it dangerously empowers players further.... good luck to the next manager. Very predictable due to the many ongoing things, including key players singing pre-contracts. Once again, things don't happen in a vacuum nor was it all down to the manager (who was more like a coach). Does anyone believe Rudiger was giving his 100% after signing a pre-contract with Madrid? I don't.
  24. Sure, but so now we decided to ignore everything that happened regarding the sale, half+ of the staff leaving, and the very late numerous signings in the window? And pretend it was all down to the manager, who has been more of a coach than manager from day one? Sorry, don't buy that.
