It'll be interesting to see how he will be deployed. At Anzhi he appeared to play either the 10 or inside forward role, when at Inter Jose often played him out wide too. I anticipate he will be apart of a fluid front four capable of drifting into different positions but what we do lack is presence in the box I hope he has the guile to deliver that. We won't need him to score 30+ goals maybe 15-20 of the right goals, not the typical Torres 3rd goal of 5 total. Score in big games and kill off the smaller ones.

This kid is FAST and has good technique too!!!

We can take them lightly because I doubt Jose will. Thats the difference. I have full confidence in the fact that Jose will treat each and every one of these games as though they are the most important fixtures we have... I've never seen Jose take it easy in the Champions League.

I can, he doesn't defend. Oscar had 8 tackles, 3 clearances and was very good going forward. For Mata to play he has to put in that sort of work particularly against a team that will have the possession as Bayern did. Mata doesn't have any influence on games we don't see a lot of the ball, in fact some might say he's a liability.

No it was off of a counter! the same tactic that was employed all game and worked for most of it. Stop looking at the possession stats, we played a very good game tactically and with luck we would've hoisted the cup. The tactics weren't the problem at all.

What in the world are you talking about??? The PHILOSOPHY was ALWAYS to surrender possession and hit them on the counter!!! We did that to near perfection on numerous occasions. Half chances? we had the best chances to score in the second half... Bayern only really generated quality opportunities when we went down to 10 men. What were you watching? I'm really stunned that you read the game so poorly...

Dude... did you even see the equalizing goal? that had nothing to do with philosophy and everything to do with individual brilliance. They scored very early in the second half not as a result of us sitting back but Ribery finding a good gap to hit a fabulous strike. You clowns nit pick everything... Would you rather us play cavalier like Barca did and get destroyed 4-1? We had a lead and it came as a result of us defending well and hitting them on the counter, nothing changed after they scored we were still looking to hit them on the counter and but for some dumb luck we would've executed that perfectly. So sick of so called supporters nit picking results with nothing really to add.

Schurrle had a fabulous game. The red obviously changed everything in a game he could've had more influence as the game wore on.

Anyone else surprised Lukaku was the 5th pen taker? At any rate, was REALLY proud of the performance we put in against the best team in Europe! We looked every bit their equal and that bodes well for us moving forward. We were seconds away from hoisting it and we were down to 10 men, there isn't much to hang your head about. Feel bad for Lukaku, I hope this doesn't send him into a tailspin. Jose should've never let him take the 5th pen, you always have someone with more experience take 5th especially when its potentially the last kick.

Anytime you can get a striker of Eto'o's quality on a free it has to be a great day!!!

ETO'O!!!!!! So glad he's with us!!! This day feels like CHRISTMAS! Eto'o, Steaua, Schalke and Basel... Amazing. He doesn't have to play every game and won't but it feels great to have a true match winner again.

EXCELLENT DRAW! This is very important for the young team we have. Now we can ease our way into the European season and focus on getting maximum points in the league. We definitely lucked out but still there are no easy groups in Europe, the other bonus is we have recent dossiers on Steaua and Basel. Wednesday 18 September - home v FC Basel Tuesday 1 October - away v Steaua Bucharest Tuesday 22 October - away v Schalke 04 Wednesday 6 November - home v Schalke 04 Tuesday 26 November - away v FC Basel Wednesday 11 December - home v Steaua Bucharest We have Everton on the 14th at Goodison and Fulham at home on the 21st of Sept Tottenham on the 28th at 3pt lane and Norwich away on the 6th Cardiff at the Bridge on Oct 19th Newcastle away on Nov 2nd and West Brom on the 9th West Ham away on the 24th of Nov and Southampton on Dec 1st. Stoke away on the 7th and Crystal Palace on the 14th at the bridge.
