Selfless but infuriating. He's talked about wanting to win Ballon d'Or, wanting to score more goals and yet, he went and did what he did rather than scored himself. The likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar etc would have scored themselves in that situation.

I didn't disagree with you back then and am not disagreeing now but still stand by my response. Maybe Conte's hands were forced by Drinkwater's injury but we all know Fabregas does his best work when he's fresh mentally and physically and playing him yesterday for the 4th straight game was definitely overkill. Granted he wasn't the only bad performer on the day but we saw the drop off in performance against Arsenal. We would probably still have won comfortably without him given how terrible Forest were.

You do realize he has started the last 3 games, don't you? Played his 3rd game in a week last Sunday and looked very poor.

Oh, we'll remember what he's won with us and thank him for his contribution, just like we normally do with every other player, even those lesser ones, but I doubt you'll see anything more. But on the flip side, you gotta ask, would we actually miss him if we take him out of the team? If you look at the defenders we have right now, he's not better in any way than our other defenders. In the 3 league games without him this season, we looked very solid and stable. Didn't miss him presence one bit. The big thing and arguably the only one that's going for him right now is he's captain. Without it, he would likely be sitting on the bench.

If it makes you feel any better, we had a GD of +20 after 5 league games in the 2010/11 season and look what happened at the end of it.

Maybe, maybe not. Point is we needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck for us. With Costa, we could play to his abilities or he can do something and score out of nothing. Did we play to his strength for that West Brom goal last season? No. That 4th goal against Stoke last year is also another example.
