Did not have enough width? Width?! You meant depth right? Buying players like van Ginkel will add depth in terms of numbers but the quality is not necessarily there. We need depth not just in terms of having numbers but also a sufficient amount of quality in the squad. And yes, we have Mourinho as the manager this time around but as I have said many times, he's great but not god. He can only work with what he's got. He can't magically give players additional quality or improvements in it, especially with the younger ones.

Transition is transition. Mourinho would still want to challenge strongly in the Premier League and Champions League, the 2 major competitions for us, and win it. Moreover, there needs to be a balance of experience and youth to the team. Right now, we have an influx of the latter and not enough of the former that will elevate us to the next level and fix the immediate problems in the team. We could find ourselves in battling to finish in the Top 4 again if we don't address the right areas in the team for next season.

Your skepticism on this whole transfer saga is perhaps understandable considering unreliability of the media these days BUT given this story has been reported for yonks now and by so many parts of the media, it seems somewhat foolish to doubt that we are actually pursuing Cavani. They might not be entirely true but some form of truth is there. Your counter argument is basically based on one quote from a club president, who you said is an idiot which is probably enough not to even take him seriously regardless of what he says.

If he joins them, West Brom would be the 11th club he has played in his career with Steve Clarke's side being the 6th Premier League club.

Not gonna be a permanent fixture in the team yet. If he stays, he will get games but not consistently. And we still don't know if he's going to be loaned out or not. Anyway the point here is, this purchase is not going to solve our immediate problems in that midfield. He has quality yes but not a finished article just yet that can come in and improve our team straight away. Agree with that. Mentioned somewhere before that it gives us a great platform to work on in the future without having to buy players like every season. But my concern is solving the major problems we have right now in the team with ready made players first.

Don't understand how can people think that strikeforce would be good enough, even if the midfield players behind them can score goals, if we are to achieve big things next season and win the major trophies. Torres will be well...Torres. Ba is good enough and I believe he will improve but he's not a top class striker that will lead us. Lukaku has done well but is still young and got loads to improve on before he can even lead the frontline on his own for us. And I don't think Schurrle should even be considered as a striker. Yes, he has played there before for Mainz but his main position and attributes now lies out wide as an inside forward/winger. If we wanna list Schurrle as a striker, then we should probably include Moses in there as well. None of the 3 strikers we have now are good enough. We need more. We need a top notch striker that will take us to a new level attacking wise and give us that X-Factor, that bit of unpredictability, putting in fear into the opposition's defenders like we did before. Otherwise, things will become predictable and we'll have to rely a lot on our attacking midfielders/midfielders to bang us most of the goals. Moreover sooner or later, Torres and Ba will go and come then, we'll only have Lukaku in our hands and there doesn't seem to be any quality strikers coming through the academy for us. If we can get someone like Cavani, then it will help us and solve much of our problems, not just now but also for the future. For someone who watches the Serie A, you should know better that Aurelio De Laurentiis is a wacki character who will do and say some silly stuff and that one shouldn't always take him too seriously. Furthermore, he is the president of a club whose biggest prize asset is attracting interests from other big clubs and it's rather obvious that he would want to cause some stir and get clubs into a bidding war etc by saying things 'Chelsea have not contacted me', 'PSG have not offered anything for Cavani' and things like that. You chose not to believe much at all in transfer rumours and what players' agent tend to say but yet seem to trust what a club president say when they all have similar objectives to achieve.

Not that I'm totally against this transfer but we seem more busy right now in acquiring more young talents for the future than addressing the key areas with ready-made players.

Poor thing, you're being ignored...

LOL! Think we all could easily write up 30 reasons as to why we shouldn't keep Torres. What nonsense! He is only considered 'in form' because of the goals scored in the Europa League and Confederations Cup against 3rd/4th tier level oppositions. Apart from that, his performances in other aspects have been woeful. People said he has been scoring goals at the back of last season but yet conveniently forgot he went 4 1/2 months without scoring a goal against better quality teams in the Premier League. To keep him because he's supposedly in the best form of his career here would be absolute tragic. It's hardly even 'best form' and for the level we're playing it, that's not good enough! Those 2 reasons are a joke and very superficial. We can easily get another player who has a winning mentality, a strong character including that is committed and not some weak pussy like Torres that will contribute so much more than what Torres will give to us. And committed to the cause? All he does is start the season decent enough, goes missing mid-way and then suddenly turning up in the back end of the season. Not to mention, he then goes to the media and start talking trash about how he wants to stay, see out his contract, repay the fans' faith in him bla bla bla but yet, hardly prove his words and perform consistently on the pitch. Cringeworthy all around, that article and what Torres does.

And you believe what he said 100%? Judging by his recent comments about the transfer saga, he seems pretty annoyed about it and wants to solve the issue ASAP before doing anything else. That story was already reported last week and as some have mentioned then, the main issue here is about agreeing a fee with Napoli. Don't think there was ever going to be much of a problem agreeing personal terms with Cavani.

In regards to the Premier League last season, don't think we had a poor season. Yes, we could and should have perhaps done a bit better BUT at the start of the season, most people were aware that our squad, while it has talented players, wasn't strong enough yet to challenge United and City for the title due to the changes made and a lack of top quality ST upfront. Most of us back then would be satisfied if we finish 3rd at least, because of the reasons mentioned and the fact that we would improve on the 6th placed finish in the season before. In the end, we did that and are pleased with it but not celebrating it as if we won a trophy like Arsenal did when they got 4th. As for the Champions League, yes, we should have done better. Some might say we were unlucky to get a tough group but had we see out a 2-0 lead over Juventus and defended better back then, we would have progressed from the group stage (though ironically, it was these problems that led us to winning the Europa League). Overall, in terms looking at last season as a whole, it was perhaps a bit disappointing simply because we were involved in so many competitions and got ourselves into fantastic positions to win trophies but bottled one after another till the last one. Should have won at least 2-3 then but there were lots of positive to take from in terms of the promise some players shown. And mind you, had it not been for Mata who showed incredible consistency throughout the season in producing countless moment of brilliance and quality when we desperately need them, we would have finished the season worse than we did. Think the problem with Mata in regards to defending is his workrate, not his defending ability or anything. And I don't see how this can't be improved with proper coaching and management. After all, Benitez managed to ensure Hazard do his fair share of defending by increasing his workrate from poor to good. If Hazard can do that, then I don't see why Mata can't. There's always room for improvement and it's not like he's mentally weak or shown signs he can't be helped anymore in that aspect. As for defending against Toure, the problem then wouldn't be about the defensive workrate (only) but more so gotta do with matching him for physicality, aggression and strength. No one from our team did it last season, not just Mata. Even if we put Oscar, who admittedly has a better workrate than Mata right now, to mark Toure, he would have struggled as well simply because of the difference in power and strength between the two.

You did that on purpose!
