I think he himself understands he can't play every game and that he's not as good anymore. However I think he's had a look at our RWB/RCB situation and thought that there are still many games to be played for him.

He's still useful even if not on the same level anymore. He can still do a job when we need to defend a lead and he comes on at a late stage of the game. His professionalism is a great example to the rest of the squad and as the captain he can help new incomings settle in quicker, young defenders can also learn from him. Apparently we've beaten Everton only 3 times on their turf in the last 14 games spanning 15 years. Lost last 4 games there. Surely a win is overdue? I predict a tidy 1-0 win.

Those signings might be done with a formation change in mind. Now that Rüdiger's gone and with those additions to midfield and defence we could easily go 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. Mendy James - Fofana - Koulibaly - Cucurella/Chilly De Jong Kovacic - Mount CHO - Havertz/Broja - Sterling Looks good to me. Kante and Jorginho might be gone next summer, so it's smart getting replacements in early to avoid a crisis. The likes of RLC, Barkley and Gilmour shouldn't be in the discussion anyway, they need to be improved upon and moved on. If they don't wanna leave or no club wants them, well tough tittie then, down the pecking order you go.

Wow, Boehly seems to be very cash happy. Provided the Cucurella, Fofana/Gvardiol and De Jong deals go through, that would make 4 really expensive signings over 50 million euros in one window... Sign of massive intent. Loving the ambition shown, even if not all go through there are reliable signs that we are at least aiming high.
