No need to have a crazy spree. Realistically this team, with good coaching, is top 4 quality already. We were champions last season, and even if we were overachieving like Mourinho insinuated, then our norm would still be top 4 contention. We need 3 signings at least for three broken positions - left-back (will essentially count for two signings as Azpi will move to the other side and Brana gets dropped), permanent central defender to partner Zouma (he is our future) and a midfielder to partner Matic or Mikel. This is the absolute minimum, all other positions are not as critical to improve. When you think about it, that team would be much different to the current one where a few unfilled key positions are dragging the whole team down. If we signed players for those positions that would walk into the team, we would be title contender quality again.

Don't think we are trying to strengthen, but rather replace Falcao/Remy, so we don't have to play Hazard as striker whenever Costa is broken or suspended. A like for like swoop should one of them leave (hopefully Falcao, it's easy to upgrade on him).

This is probably true, but I wonder what happened. After winning the CL we started investing heavily in young up-and-coming true talents, the future, but then all of a sudden the club went "fuck it" and went on to hire Benitez (starting point of streak of brilliant decisions). It would have been better to win and lose = 3 points. Two draws in a row = 2 points. Being unbeaten is overrated, except for maybe the mental aspect of not losing.

Tbf what I meant in that post was that he was defending for himself and Ivan. But it is somewhat true, in the first half he was the only defender who was awake. JT however wasn't bad, he's still a better option than GC for me... his experience and influence outweighs what Cahill can offer with a bit faster legs. Yeah. He used to be one of the best at what he does, but this season his body can't keep up anymore. When we signed him I never thought he'd become so instrumental for us, so fair play to him, but it's time to move on.
