If it wasn't Cech, and if Cech himself wasn't so close to the record, there would be next to no rotation, of course.

I'd reply with technical jargon and explain why it was an exceptional save but I CBA, it was clearly a brilliant reaction stop.

Cech wondersave keeps Chelsea seven clear

I like games with a good storyline (for me its the most important thing, bollocks to the graphics, they're a secondary aspect), so for me you can never beat something like an Assassins Creed or GTA game. I'll see if I can get it somewhere! Thanks for the recommendation. -
The thing that made me recognise just how good a save is the fact that on the highlights packages, the cameraman couldn't react to how fast Lukaku hit the shot. Okay, granted it is only a foot or two away from Petr, but the fact he reacts to it and kicks the ball away in the time the cameraman takes to even realise where Lukaku's shot demonstrates just how little time he had to make the save. Those cameramen receive some incredible training and can, usually, in a split second realise where the ball is. Outstanding from Cech, truly, and magnified by the importance of the moment.

Very cute of you to say so Choo Choo -
Certainly think that might be the case in home matches but he certainly is the deeper of the two away from home, IMO.

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has signed a new five-and-a-half year deal with the Premier League title challengers. The 24-year-old has scored an impressive 13 goals in 36 appearances this season and has demonstrated a degree of consistency lacking in previous season, whilst also contributing seven assists this season. "Since I came here in 2012, I have always felt good and the club has been very supportive to me," Hazard said. "He is already a top player and his evolution has been fantastic," manager Jose Mourinho said. "He is still very young and he can become the best." Nearing 150 appearances for the club inside three seasons, Hazard is already a firm favourite amongst the Blues faithful and with 43 Chelsea goals to his name already, he is set to become a legend in his own right.

Courtois hasn't been "dropped". He's being subtly reminded by José that he isn't undisputed in his position. He'll be back in for the PSG game, 100%.

People get caught out by the Sky Sports line-up infographic. Our midfield formation is very definitely this: Oscar - Matic Willian - Fabregas - Hazard If people had that mental picture they'd understand Oscar's role better, but since this is the most circular argument on the forum I'll withdraw at this point.

Mind games? No, not in my opinion. Simply rotation. Cech is three games away from breaking the PL clean sheets record and his history here means he deserves the chances to try and attain that achievement. Courtois will just have to deal with that fact. While you have another of the world's top five goalkeepers you can never be an undisputed number one. Courtois has to appreciate the fact he has played 66% of our games this season, because the other 34% have seen Petr Cech take to the field. Petr freakin Cech. We're not talking about Ross Turnbull here. We're seeing Mourinho use two world class goalkeepers, and why ever not? If it brings the best out of the two of them and they're both relatively happy, then it can only be a good thing for the Club. When Petr inevitably moves on in the summer, Courtois will be the number one for definite. BUT - until then, he's going to have to bide his time. If he wanted to play for a club where he'd play 90% of the games he should have asked to stay in Spain for another year. Cech is goalkeeping royalty and Thibaut has to respect that fact, which I'm sure he does. I think he actually relishes having to be at his best because he knows one sub-par game and that could be curtains for the remainder of the season.

Has the penny finally dropped for José? You can't not play a kid with this much potential who is also performing beautifully. You just can't!

I don't think that's the case. I've said this before and I could write a doctoral thesis on the reasons why, but it is simply a psychological thing. Courtois is a newcomer at Chelsea. Yes, he has achieved incredible things at Atletico, but he hasn't yet at Chelsea. Conversely Cech has 491 appearances and 227 clean sheets having won countless major honours over a ten-year period. Familiarity breeds confidence - people know how good Thibaut is, but until he has a couple of years under his belt it is always going to seem like something of a risk when he plays. Cech on the other hand has a decade's experience at Chelsea and has had long-term partnerships with the likes of Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, etc. for years and years. So ultimately we're bound to feel "safer" when he plays. If people cast their minds back to 2004, many people were outraged that Carlo Cudicini was being usurped by this young pretender from France and for the first few months they couldn't deal with it. I couldn't. Back then Carlo was my favourite player. But there is no doubt Courtois is the long-term option. I just think José is - rightly - taking advantage of the fact he has two of the world's very best goalkeepers at his disposal. I also think he's desperate for Cech to get the PL record number of clean sheets before he inevitably moves on in the summer. Courtois just has to deal with the fact he is competing with goalkeeping royalty. As of next season he'll be the absolutely undisputed number one, but for now he needs to work hard for his place because every time Cech has come in (even the Bradford game he made some unreal saves and was left criminally exposed by our worst defensive performance in years) he's done a sterling job. Fair play to them both I say.

You get the feeling he is so fucking wound up by his suspension. Sorry PSG/Burnley.

But he gave us the immense aerial presence we lack. Remy is not an "aerial" striker, though he is not at all bad in the air. Drogba being in the box caused them all sorts of havoc from set-pieces. Look how Howard came scrambling out of the goal to punch away Zouma's flick on in the 89th minute. If Drogba wasn't there, either the defence clears it, or Howard comes and claims it. Instead he causes them a nightmare by backing into Jagielka, meaning that Howard has to come and punch. He does punch it - straight to Willian who scores the game-winning goal. Football is a game of small margins and I think you have to give Drogba's physicality some credit. Everton dealt well with set plays all evening until the minute he came on, and then when we went 1-0 up, he did his usual party piece of being arguably the best time-waster in world football by taking it into the corner, winning free-kicks, etc. etc. Yes Cesc gave us a bit more incisiveness in the final third - before he came on we were making a lot of sideways passes in and around the penalty area - but I think Drogba was crucial in unnerving and unsettling an Everton defence totally disorganised after Barry's sending off. You can take your statement the complete other way and say Loic was well off his best tonight. I recall at least a couple of occasions where he had a quite simple pass out wide and he gave the ball away. Basically put, neither Remy or Drogba are Diego's level, but both have their qualities. In a tight, tactical game where one team is very happy for the 0-0, you need the bullish centre-forward who is going to outmuscle the opposition and win you free-kicks and cause disruption at the back for your opponent. Didier did they very well in his cameo. He was far better last night than he was at Villa and I think José deserves the credit for bringing him on at exactly the right time with a perfect battle plan.
