I think Rami's ideal position is CM in 4-3-3. In a double pivot role, however, I have my doubts over him because of his passing skills and his forward runs will make life much difficult for Mikel (the player next to him). Though he has never been tried there so he could prove me wrong. I can't see him at rightback either because he simply doesn't have the experience to play there. I think RDM has a lot to try during pre-season.

Essien is different because he injured his knee. I know from personal experience that once you injure your knee, it never recovers fully.

To get this back on topic, where do you see Rami playing next season in the 4-2-3-1? On the wing where he played since RDM took charge or centrally despite not being tested there?

Agreed, Podolski and Giroud cannot replace RVP. Even if he does stay, I can't see him having a season like the last won where he literally single-handedly won them half of their points. Either way they will be a much weakened side

Inter are threatening to turn into Liverpool. Snjeider is probably their only top player. In fairness they have only become a "top" team in the last decade or so, historically they were a very average team in Italy. (no offence to Inter fans). Back to Debuchy, I think if we match Inter's bid, he will most likely join us instead.
