Sorry..but thats a stupid argument. Maradona didnt play in a great side in Europe....His Napoli was an average European Side. Players are judged by what they have won. Messi for Argentina is absolutely pants compare to what he does at barca. He lacks the drive that maradona provided. When you talk about great players, like pele, zidane and Maradona, they have one thing in common. They are World Cup Winners. Maradona and Zidane played a stellar role in getting their teams to the finals and helping them win it. Messi so far is miles off doing that for Argentina. Hence my issue with people calling him the greatest player ever. Football is not just about club football.

Yes...humans have a short memory. He is great to watch, like Wenger said he is a "playstation" player....but football is much more than that. Maradona single handedly steered Argentina to a World Cup win when the country was recovering from one of the worst turmoils they faced after the Falkland Wars. He single handedly steered Napoli to serie A title. Napoli were not Milan, Madrid or Barcelona. Unless Messi plays in an ordinary team and single handedly lifts the team to new heights he will NEVER EVER SURPASS MARADONA.
