Only just found out that we actually gave him a 4 year contract. No idea why. I mean its not like we'll have to fend off other clubs in 2 years time for his signing. No wonder he's just been phoning it in.

Looking more like a dud to me. Still prepared to give him more time to settle, but that was mainly to adjust to the pace of the PL. Amateurish defending for the Zagreb goal, and every game he looks like he came out from a sauna, just 10 mins into the game. If Tuchel has sense, he would drop him for Chalobah or just stick to playing 2 CBs

So underrated Essien these days...because of his injury ridden career, a lot of people have forgotten how damn good he was. Better than Makelele for me. He could defend, AND he could actually attack with great passing and powerful finishing. Did a lot of dirty work for the team in CDM, CM and even RB roles.

Sigh...hope this guy turns out to be the opposite of Saul and actually turns out to be revelation. The position he operates in midfield is a game changer and can dramatically improve our solidity as a team if it works.
-
Leave Koulibaly and Mount on the bench. Fat chance though. We'll still see that crappy 3 CB formation.

Based on Chelsea's past when it comes down to squad vs manager, squad always used to win. If Tuchel stands a chance of turning this around., he needs to start from square one again. I'm not talking about just benching every single first teamer (that would just cause an outright revolt among the players). He needs to bench some of the key underperformers for an extended period of time (and not just a game or 2). Drop Mount. Bring in some of the new youth signings. Drop KK (this one is really important, because the guy is turning out to be dud). Either change the formation to play with just 2 CBs and or play Chalobah instead. Give the new CM from Juventus a run out. Yes, we've been terrible with a back 4, but with a different CB combo and more importantly, the right midfield combo, it can change. Back 5 atm is only giving us a false sense of defensive security while offering virtually nothing in attack. Also, he needs to avoid bringing on players like Pulisic or Ziyech. These players don't care about the team. It sucks that we still have them on the bench, like dressing room poison.
-
I think Mason Mount is the biggest clue here. Something is wrong with the kid to play with so much disinterest as he has in the past 7 games. Granted he's not the most consistent, but you could see him put in the effort in games.. This is an unhappy dressing room atm. For Tuchel's sake...he needs a miracle and a couple of big wins (same thing I suppose) to turn this shite around.
-
Tuchel sucks atm...but don't want this fraud anywhere near.
-
We should have allowed the both of them to leave and retained CHO. Dumbass decision to keep Pulisic especially. The guy only cares about the USMNT with the WC approaching soon.
-
4+1???? Fuck...that was an amateurish decision. Wouldn't have happened in Roman's watch. Can't blame Boehly because its his first year, and tbf almost everyone thought this was a smart signing. I blame KK more than anyone. The guy seems to be phoning it in.

Most shocking of all the transfers to me. Especially after all the good things we've been hearing about him prior to his move. Looking like a dud and not the leader we were expecting. Looks like he moved to England to enjoy his retirement. If Tuchel has sense, he would bench the guy and give Chalobah a chance. At least at his age, Chalobah can improve.

That's what I've been fearing for the past few weeks. Why they've chucked it is another question altogether. Did the squad not like Tuchel becoming an executioner and chucking out figures like Lukaku/Werner ? Blocking Azpi's transfer...and sidelining others like Pulisic/Ziyech? From the eyes of the fans, those were much needed changes. But I'm not sure how the squad is taking these changes internally. I hope Boehly had a word with the squad after this showing. If he wants Tuchel to continue, he needs to express that he is going to be backed. Else, this squad will quietly pull the rug out from under Tuchel's feet.

Credit to Chillwell for not letting his head drop and instead showing to the coach what he can deliver. Single handedly turned the game around for us in a matter of minutes. Deserves to start the next few games.
-
Agreed. Drogba also has had games where he would be silent for long periods, but popped up when it mattered.
-
Broja looking like an idiot for signing that contract then. Especially if Tuchel has no concrete plans to use him.
-
Wouldn't exactly call them boring. Tottenham is boring. United have now transformed into this hard working team with players that work for each other. Their shortcomings IMO, are just the lack of a good CM to compliment Casemiro (but even Fred and McTominay can do the donkey work in midfield and entrust Bruno and Eriksen to be creative), and good CB options on the bench. No team would like to resort to bringing Maguire off the bench to protect a lead.
-
Maguire doing everything possible to sabotage his team.
-
Oh crap...Maguire on.
-
Now that United are seemingly a good team again, maybe NOW we'll break our winless record against them 😄
-
Now can I call it an Arteta masterclass?
-
Lol to be fair, I just started watching from the last 10 mins.😛
-
United still need another quality CM. With DeJong they would have really threatened.
-
Arse all at sea. Arteta masterclass?
-
I've been thinking about that too. But I hope Mount doesn't just react negatively to it. He's produced the best attacking stats in the team for the past two years, but we're all waiting to see if he can take it up a level. It would be a shame if he would throw toys out of his pram at this stage and act like he's being undervalued. His performances need to speak for itself. One would hope that he looks at James situation and see how the club values performances like his. It's tough though. Especially when he wins player of the year accolades for 2 years, is a year older too. All that could be weighing on his mind.
-
From the outside, James seems to be the one talking to all the new players (Koulibaly, Fofana, etc.) welcoming them to squad. Maybe it's just him gelling with fellow defenders, but there seems to be some leadership qualities on show there. If not captain, at least a good team vice captain in the making.
