Going to be pretty damned nice having Pulisic and RLC back. Couple of great weapons in our push for top 4. Billy is essentially a new signing if he can pick up where he left off before the stoppage.
-
The likes of Ornstein, Matt Law, and Honigstein are as reliable as it gets. Ornstein on his podcast yesterday explained how the transfer went down in such intricate detail that it was as if he was personally in the room when it happened. Don't think there's any need to worry now.
-
Few players missing from that pic. Don't see Kante, CHO, Giroud, or Billy G. I think that's Pulisic on the left wearing a #10 shirt but I can't be positive. Hope those aren't injuries.
-
Like I said yesterday, all those people around the internet saying "if he's so good then why does Chelsea get a free run at him?" were stupid. All of the top teams in the PL were interested. It's just that we are in an extremely unique position to lure him.
-
I predict a Mourinho press conference within 1-2 months of the next season where he says "what can I do when Chelsea/City/United spend hundreds of millions and I must sign free transfers?" If they don't spend big on quality players I think it'll be yet another season where they walk on eggshells praying that neither of Kane or Son get injured. And Kane is always injured.
-
It really is bananas how every PL based English player has such a huge premium on their valuation. If Chilwell were from a random Eastern European country or a South American or something he'd literally cost half the money. Can't blame the club's of course. Leicester are likely to get picked apart piece by piece soon and should obviously demand massive fees. Chilwell, Maddison, Ndidi, their RB. Big boys are gonna come sniffing soon. I really think Chilwell would be perfect for us but we'd be insane to pay Maguire money.

Speaking of Jose, I'm expecting fireworks this summer from him. He's going to watch his old club Chelsea signing Werner, Ziyech, Chilwell, etc, he's going to watch his old club United probably sign Sancho. City will undoubtedly splash the cash. Meanwhile Levy will probably be tighter than he already was in the best of times pre-COVID. Mou is going to be bargain bin shopping! ๐๐๐

I listened to this earlier this morning. Funny how a German football expert like Rafa Honigstein says Werner is a top, top player and an absolute steal of a buy at โฌ50m, yet we have internet noobs all over the place saying "meh, he's nothing special." ๐ We just got ultra lucky that the virus is fucking up lots of clubs AND almost every other top club is pretty set at his position. If this was a normal summer Werner would be a ยฃ80-100m player that everyone would be vying for.
-
Very curious what happens with Willian. Can 100% see Josรฉ wooing him and convincing him to go there which would be annoying. Still wouldn't rule out us extending him for another 2 years or something.
-
The English tax was always going to be in play with Chilwell and tbf Leicester would have zero reason to lower that valuation in normal times. But I suspect he'll be much cheaper than ยฃ80m if he goes due to financial issues stemming from the virus. I think they'd be lucky to get ยฃ40m if he really pushes to go.
-
Sancho makes zero sense now. Spending ยฃ120m on a wide player with Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech, and CHO just doesn't seem to fit what we're doing at all. Havertz would make sense only if we sold 1, maybe even 2 midfielders. Which I can't see.
-
I think people who can't envision where/how Werner can fit in our team with our formation should picture how Spuds use Kane and Son. Werner can be our Son. He's not a winger and he's not a #9 but can play anywhere across the forward areas and in emergency situations he can fill in for Harry Kane up top. Werner can do the same thing. Great pace like Son, even better goal scoring threat. I can't really imagine that Lamps is thinking about playing one of Tammy or Werner like he does with Tammy or Giroud. I think they'll almost always be on the pitch together.
-
Reading around, a lot of opposition fans are in "he's not that good anyways" mode. I love seeing that. They'd be over the moon to have him at their club. Theres a reason Klopp (arguably the world's current best manager) really wanted him. He is that good and could play for any top team.
-
Unless a midfielder is sold we can forget Havertz. And Frank seems to rate everyone on our books in those positions including Barkley. We have RLC coming back. Unless we sell Jorginho to Juve and completely switch up how we set up our midfield (like Kante moving back to the base of midfield) there's simply no room. Coutinho on loan makes more sense than spending โฌ100m.
-
Yeah, I think that'll be that in terms of attacking players. Sancho interest died in January and Havertz will likely stay put for another year or if he does move it'll be for something we won't touch like 100m. I think our attack and midfield are set. LB and mayyyybe a CB is all that's left.
-
Fair enough, but for me Pepe was different. He cost about 20+ million more I think and was essentially Arsenal's entire transfer budget. If we were spending ยฃ70-80m on Werner I'd be cautious. But when players are regularly going for absurd fees these days ~ยฃ50m is a great deal. This deal would basically be paid for via the Morata fee.
-
Two of the best attacking talents in Europe potentially sealed and delivered before the transfer window even opens. ๐๐๐ Before qualification for next season's CL is even assured. ๐๐๐
-
I highly doubt we'd see Lamps deploy him as a traditional #9. Worrying about his small stature is dumb, imo. I see him as more of a Mo Salah type. Basically a wide striker.
-
So much bullshit out there that I won't explode with excitement yet, but Werner is literally the perfect forward to gel with our squad. What a fantastic signing he'd be.
-
Ryan Fraser has Mourinho/Tottenham written all over him. Mediocre player but will run through walls for the manager. Just the sort of "warrior" Mou loves and just the kind of cheap ass deal Levy looks for. Completely below the level we should be after.
-
We need Real Madrid to start one of their tapping up campaigns that they seem to always succeed at with one of Salah or Manรฉ. Then maybe one of them goes into "I've accomplished so much at Liverpool so I'm ready for a new challenge" mode like Hazard did. Them getting Werner would sting less if they lose one of their talisman.
-
Ziyech, Chilwell, Coutinho, and a new striker to compete with Tammy sounds like an awesome summer to me. That's a whole lotta extra chance creation and goal threat. People will bitch and moan about Chilwell and Coutinho but in my opinion it won't last long after we see them in our shirt.
-
Yeah, I'm really starting to feel like the virus will completely fuck up any grand transfer plans for everyone. Both incoming and outgoing. Clubs will be reluctant to sell big stars and also shell out mega money with so much uncertainty. I'm really glad we got Ziyech done already. But I'm not feeling confident at all that we'll be able to splash out on others that we need. Although tbf, our board have been pretty shrewd in getting great players on cheaper transfer fees in recent years (Ziyech, Cesc, Costa, Kante, etc) so maybe we'll have an advantage on some clubs.
-
I actually think it's dumb to restart the season after months off. The integrity of the season is lost. I was/am fully on the side of ending it and coming back in the fall. Players are going to be rusty for weeks and the quality of football will be shit during that time for the most part. Something people don't often talk about is how some teams being healthy while others aren't is an advantage. Take Spuds for example. They were going to be in serious trouble before this extended break. Harry Kane was set to miss the rest of the season, Son was likely going to miss weeks and weeks, other important players were injured as well. Now when we resume they just get all those players back. That's fucking dumb in my opinion. If there was never any break they'd have been screwed. Now they'll have a great chance to challenge us for 4th. Same with United. Pogba and Rashford, their two best players, were out with long term injuries. Now they get them back. Teams above them having relatively healthier squads was an advantage that's no longer there. I don't know a great solution in regards to CL places and relegation but this season is fucked imo.

I mean, the lockdown here in the States has proven massively effective in flattening the curve in many places. We just have so many dumbasses who think their "freedoms" are being infringed upon by being told to stay home. It could be much, much worse than it is here and we're at 90k deaths. Not saying we should stay completely locked down until a vaccine is available, but we 100% should be still social distancing for months longer and not meeting whores in hotel rooms. If for no other reason than optics.
