Oh god. Can you imagine United pipping us to a CL spot at the last minute and him deciding to go there instead? Yikes. Thankfully, it seems as though Lampard's talks are what sealed it rather than us being in the CL.

I think of all the reasons we've been given for the delay, the one I believe is that we're waiting until the Bundesliga season is done before announcing it. I find it ridiculous to believe that the hold up is simply the medical. Signings have been announced before that were then subject to medical later. I think we'd have announced it by now if that's all that it was. I think we just don't want to create a distraction and an annoyance to Leipzig when they still have a few matches left. If this deal doesn't happen and he suddenly goes elsewhere after all this then a hell of a lot of extremely reputable journo's will have trashed their names. The intricacies of the deal have been laid out in such detail, though, that I'm not worried. Yet.

I think we'd go back to the 4-2-3-1 of past Chelsea sides if Havertz comes in. -----------------------Tammy------------------ Werner-------------Havertz---------------Ziyech --------------Kovacic--------Kante------------ LB--------Tomori-----------Rudiger----------James ------------------------Kepa------------------------ That is one HELL of a first XI with the likes of Pulisic, CHO, Jorginho, Billy, Mount, RLC etc to rotate in at any given time. That's a squad that's good enough to at least challenge Liverpool and City. Especially with Kante back in his natural position destroying everyone.
-
We could be switching to a 2 man midfield next season, who knows?
-
Kante is the only player we have who I would genuinely feel awful about selling. Hope we aren't even considering it. I love the little guy! 😭
-
So wait. Frank and Cech traveled to Germany to convince him to join and that's fine but our team doctors can't travel to Germany to complete a medical?
-
The whole concept of needing a medical for player who is currently fit and playing games has always been funny to me. I'm sure every Bundesliga player was given a medical just a couple of weeks ago when they returned from the virus layoff.
-
Kurzawa is awful. Wouldn't take him even on a free. And it looks like we're still weeks away from a Werner announcement. 😒 Don't know why we can't do what other clubs have done and announce a fee and personal terms are agreed and just say the transfer is "now subject to passing a medical." Now there's plenty of time for some other club to turn his head...😩
-
I definitely think Toni is communicating with him and encouraging him to come here. Maybe even Werner nudging him our way so they come in together. That may give us an advantage over any other English club that are after him. Plus, we've seen how big of a draw Lampard is for these younger players. Havertz has a hell of a lot of Lampard about his game so I'd imagine Frank will have a pretty convincing presentation that could also be a big advantage for us. Bayern don't ever splash mega money, do they? Are they really prepared to spend £70-100m? He also doesn't really strike me as the ready made superstar that Real Madrid like either.
-
So basically we are with Havertz where we are with any top player. Just one of a dozen big clubs who are interested. Doesn't seem we're actively negotiating or anything yet. People on Twitter yesterday were going bananas as if he was on the verge of signing.
-
Havertz and Sancho are completely different players so I'm not sure why these journalists keep linking the two together. There's no chance we are even still thinking about Sancho anymore with Ziyech and Werner coming. Makes no sense.
-
Think we also have to keep in mind that the only reason we're hearing about Wener now is because of his release clause situation. If we are indeed after Havertz I doubt we'll hear anything substantial for weeks and weeks from now after the season ends. Pretty easy to forget that there's still plenty of football to be played before clubs go into full on transfer window mode. A lot of people are acting like a bunch of big transfers all over Europe are imminent. We won't see these mega money moves any time soon.
-
The meltdowns across the entire football world if we signed Havertz in addition to the players we already have coming in...
-
Unless Matt Law or Ornstein confirm it I'm not buying it.
-
Bet you Thiago Silva ends up back together with his best buddy Luiz at Arse. They're always crying for a CB.
-
Roman trying to build a Man City-like squad here where on any given match day we have 4-5 amazing players on the bench to rotate in? 😂 Unless some club takes Barkley off our hands I can't imagine we'd be after ANOTHER hugely expensive attacker before addressing the defense.
-
Auba would've been a fantastic short term option. But that was before we knew Werner could be had. Offers everything Auba does but is 6 years younger and will get better. Aubameyang is super screwed if he's unhappy at Arse right now. No top club is going to meet their asking price during the pandemic when he's nearly 31.
-
Yeah, Kepa is absolutely unmovable right now. Unless the club are so determined to move on from him that they accept a mega loss of like £40m. And I don't see that happening. Kepa will be given at least another season to earn the spot.
-
Bingo. Havertz plays in the same area of the pitch as Mount, RLC, and Barkley. There is literally zero room for another attacking midfielder at the moment. Especially not a €100m one. I think Chilwell will be our last target. Unless someone comes in for Zouma I doubt we'll be after another CB either.
-
I wouldn't say he's poor defensively, just average. He's the typical modern fullback. Very good going forward, mediocre defensively. Look at TAA at Liverpool. He can absolutely be gotten at defensively by quality attackers. Marcelo the same. Kyle Walker the same. There are very few who are world class at both.
-
Yeah, I can understand being against us spending Harry Maguire money on Chilwell (I am, too!) but I don't get people slating his actual quality. His form had gone off the boil which also coincided with the whole Leicester team going off the boil. But there's a reason he's the most sought after fullback for both Lamps and Pep. He's got every attribute to become a world class fullback. If Liverpool didn't have Roberston already I'm sure they'd be sniffing around, too. He'd lock our fullback pairing in for the next handful of years at least.
-
Jorginho still gets so little respect, I see. 😏 No way I'd sell him unless we get someone on his level to replace him. And I don't see anyone out there who's available.
-
Is he on crack? RB Leipzig a bigger club than Chelsea?
-
One thing that stands out in addition to his pace when you watch all of his goals on YouTube is how comfortable he is on his weaker left foot. You can tell he has worked extremely hard on shooting with that foot. Some players are useless with their weaker foot and shy away from using it even when in scoring positions. But nope, Werner is lethal with his.
-
He'd be starting life on the bench at Liverpool most likely, true. But I think he'd start quite often at City as a Sané replacement.
