Okay, he surely didn’t think THREE would get injured simultaneously at the very start of the season.
-
Nah, not having that. He couldn’t have imagined both Kante and Kova getting injured already. One before the season even started and the other in the second fucking match. Then RLC gets injured at the same time. He (and all of us, let’s be fair) also probably didn’t foresee Gallagher looking like a deer in headlights after his impressive Palace spell. We looked set in midfield for this season with 4 quality options and then RLC as a emergency player. I think the plan was obviously to address the midfield with a dramatic refresh next summer when Kante and Jorgi would be allowed to go. The fact that we didn’t even try for a midfielder all summer proves it.
-
So Alvarez off the table, Sangare off the table unless a silly offer comes in, and we aren’t even trying for Douglas Luiz. Reports this morning that Billy G wouldn’t be allowed to leave because of the injury crisis we have in midfield but now reports are that he will actually be allowed to leave even though we haven’t brought a new midfielder in. Are we mental? Sides like Leeds and bloody Southampton ran through our midfield like it wasn’t there. West Ham with Rice, Soucek, etc will probably do the same this weekend in a game we MUST WIN. And yet we aren’t going to sign someone there? Good luck to Tuchel if so…🫣
-
Would Memphis even be anymore effective up front than Kai? Seems like an odd fit.
-
I don’t worry about Alvarez being a bust. He’s got the physique, attitude, and skill set to be a PL player. I just think he’d be very underwhelming. He immediately helps us but I’m not sure he elevates us as a team. And it’s definitely a red flag that United were desperate and crying out for a DM all summer, have Alvarez’s former coach as their manager, said manager looked at like 5 different Ajax players, and still decided not to target Alvarez. Very strange, no?
-
So uh…..are we going to address the glaring problem in midfield today?
-
I just hope we get absolute and definitive clarity TODAY on when Auba is expected to be ready to play. Not some vague bullshit like “he’ll be ready….sometime soon.”
-
Wonder what’s happening with Alvarez right now. No reports that we’re talking with Ajax or anything.
-
So, looks like our window will end with Auba and Alvarez. If so, I’d give this window overall a solid 8/10. Solved MOST of our issues in one transfer window. Would’ve been perfect if we would’ve signed another young attacker who is a source of goals and also a striker that’s more than just a stopgap.
-
They’ve had Gvardiol add another year to his contract. He was already signed up until 2026, so this new contract was almost surely to add a set buyout clause. Wonder if it’ll put us off next window.
-
Btw, all the noise about Zaha has died down completely. So it’s pretty clear he’s not moving anywhere. So we’re going to have the same stale looking attack the whole season. If Sterling gets injured…yikes
-
Tielemans is not a DM but rather a deep playmaker. Good player, but doesn’t help our issue of getting run through like a tissue paper when the ball is turned over. Not being in for Douglas Luiz is puzzling, though. He’d be just what we need and for a decent price.
-
Wonder if City signing Akanji spells the end of their interest in Gvardiol, thus making our path to him for next season easier? They now have Dias, Laporte, Stones, Aké, and Akanji. Surely they don’t need another CB? Hope what Fabrizio said the other day was true and we lock him down now so we don’t have to worry about it next summer. We saw this window how insane the CB market is.
-
When everyone is fit our squad is actually packed with quality EXCEPT in arguably the most important area of the team which is the guys who get you goals on a consistent basis. Again, when fit we have a squad that should be capable of competing at the highest level. But without ruthless finishers we’re going to struggle to put away anyone.
-
Even yesterday when the whole team struggled I loved what I saw out of him. Aggression, passion, getting stuck in to players like ache Adams who are much bigger than he is.
-
There would at least be a little excitement about us finally signing a striker (even if I didn’t want Auba) if he could start playing right away. But it’s like the ultimate blue balls that we’re signing a new striker who can’t contribute for weeks. 😩
-
Of the two we’re now linked with, Sangare looks like the one that’s got higher upside. Tbf, his footage makes him look like a proper baller. But how effective will his elaborate dribbling and tricks work if he steps up into a MUCH better league? Same questions I have about Antony joining United. Alvarez meanwhile looks like the safer, no-nonsense sort of DM. Keeps everything simple and tidy but isn’t an explosive or flashy player. Ugh. If I had to choose I’d go with Alvarez because I think his game would translate better to the PL. But since Ajax have already sold half their team I can’t see them selling another key one on deadline day. Their new coach is already super pissed about selling Antony. So we’ll probably end up with Sangare.
-
Panic buying a decent DM now instead of waiting for a truly world class one a bit later is as Chelsea as it gets.
-
Bruh, tomorrow is going to be insane. Wouldn’t be surprised if some madness happens with CR7 since Barca are still acting like cunts with Auba.
-
So what happens when Kante, Kova, Jorginho, and CG are all fit and we have a new €50m midfielder who is a pure DM?
-
How, in a summer where we’ve spent hundreds of millions and brought in 4 great players (with more to come most likely) have we allowed Arse to fly by us like this? It’s unreal. We’ve got a MUCH better squad player for player than they do. But what they’ve got that we don’t is a set identity and way of playing. It’s embarrassing.
-
Never expected Haaland to flop like many deluded Twitter peeps did, but I did think it would take a couple of months for he and City’s other players to get used to a different profile of striker up top. Nope. This is the picture perfect team for him. He’ll score 40 in the league alone if he stays fit the whole season.
-
🤣🤣🤣 True. We need a player that’s a mixture of Kante, Cesc, and Jorginho all in one. Which is why FDJ is so sought after.
-
Haaland, man. Depressing as fuck seeing this compared to our situation up top.
-
What we’re crying out for in midfield is someone who is super comfortable on the ball yet still very athletic and mobile. Someone who a can also break the lines with a key pass. Frenkie De Jong or Declan Rice in other words. This guy, from what I’m reading and watching, is brilliant at breaking up play but not much else. Much like so many other of our current players he’ll probably struggle when pressed due to his limited technical ability on the ball.
