£60m on Anthony Gordon would be the worst transfer in football history. No exaggerating. Really, anything above £40m (becuase he is a huge talent, English, and coming from a desperate club who don’t want to sell) is psychotic. For £60m a smart scouting team could go to other leagues and identify TWO young talents who could become great players.
-
Btw, from all the footage I’ve seen Leão seems to play and do most of his damage from the left side where Sterling obviously plays. So another reason why I’m skeptical of our interest this summer.
-
I’d still be pretty shocked if we signed any additional attackers after Auba. Gordon in particular doesn’t really help our wastefulness in the final third so spending £50m on him is absurd. Even Leão, who I love, is a massive risk for the mega fee he’d cost and we don’t know yet if he was a one season wonder or if he’s the real deal.
-
Yeah, I think we’ll sign Fofana and Auba and then we’re done. Lamps was pretty adamant when asked about him how important Gordon is to Everton. They could be in another relegation fight this season so to sell their brightest young talent is a no go. And I ain’t complaining if we miss out on him and waste £50m. Leão seems super far fetched. Don’t see anyone clued in reporting it.

So uh, are we gonna spend £400m this summer with Leão, Gordon, Auba, and Fofana?

Even yesterday when we were shite Reece was our most dangerous attacker together with Sterling as soon as Tuchel abandoned this RLC experiment. Same against Spuds when he changed the formation and moved Reece to his actual position. Signing Fofana already so that James can play as a fucking wingback will help the team so much. RLC over there was a cute trick in a one off game where Spuds weren’t expecting it. We obviously should not be doing that again. As for a midfield signing, I was of the same mind as Tuchel apparently still is in. I figured “we have Jorginho, Kante, Kova, and Gallagher so we don’t need a new, expensive midfielder.” But after seeing us totally fall apart and crumble into a pathetic mess in the span of 7 days without Kante I’ve changed my mind. Kante and Kova are ALWAYS injured these days and cannot be counted on. And for some reason Tuchel considers Gallagher a deep midfielder when that clearly isn’t his position as we saw yesterday. He’s best in the Mount role and that’s who he should be competing with, not Kante and Kova. We go from being a totally dominant, world class midfield to one who every opponent fancies themselves against with a single injury. That tells you we need someone new.
-
All that positivity I felt after that Spuds performance where we should have won and all the positivity about how we asserted ourselves on a top opponent has been sapped within 7 days. We’re the same toothless Chelsea from much of last season with the exact same weaknesses and mentality when a team gets in our faces.
-
3 games in, 5 points off top, no attacking progress, negative goal difference. Humiliated now by a side who haven’t been able to defend for their lives in months.
-
We don’t look like getting close to scoring any goals via our attackers. Our fucking defenders have been more dangerous than our forwards. 😩😩😩 it’s infuriating
-
Every single time there’s a quick transition we’re extremely vulnerable because the midfield is nonexistent.
-
We’re only 3 games in and we can clearly see why this should be the final seasons for Jorgi and Kante, btw. Something we’ve all been wondering about. Kante because he can’t stay fit these days and Jorginho because he can’t deal with the intensity of this league most weeks. Both must sadly go next summer.
-
Mount hasn’t got going yet this season 3 games in. Totally on the periphery in each game so far. Sterling has looked our only dangerous attacker so far this season. Don’t see where the goals are coming from with this current team.
-
If you press us hard in midfield we cannot cope with J5 in there. He is LESS than useless in a game like this where we don’t have 70+ % of the ball with him comfortably dictating things. This is the sort of game that screams out for a certain profile of midfielder. THIS is why the links to a calm, press resistant midfielder like FDJ make sense. Or Kova if he were bloody fit.
-
Embarrassing. Getting fucking battered.
-
You fucking know all week preparing for this how Leeds play. And yet we look totally rattled still.
-
And there’s you typical Mendy error with the ball at his feet. Looks dodgy as hell almost every time he is out under pressure.
-
Jorginho is like a fucking statue standing in the middle of the pitch. Getting breezed by over and over.
-
I think it’s more about the fact that Tuchel doesn’t want to play Azpi who has no legs anymore against quick attackers. Like last week when he specifically mentioned that he wanted Reece at CB to defend Son which he ended up doing brilliantly. With Fofana hopefully coming in next week we won’t have to see Reece “wasted” back there anymore.
-
Not really anyone on the bench who we can throw on if we’re in desperate need of a goal since Broja is out injured again. Once more highlighting our need for a striker.
-
Big, BIG chance for Conor to show what he’s got. Excited to see him finally start for us in the PL. Looks like Cucu has instantly come in and won the first choice LWB position without even much of a fight. Wonder what Chilly is thinking…
-
I listened to Jesse March’s press conference and he said that he’s going to be sending his team out there to really go after us and press. Typical Bielsa-like Leeds in other words. So hopefully whoever starts in midfield next to J5 between Conor and RLC is fully sharp and ready for that. Should be a very tough match for the third consecutive weekend. This is the sort of match and the sort of opponent that you’d really like to have Kante and Kova fit for. A match that will likely be very end to end and high tempo. Very frustrating that they’re both already injured 🤦♂️
-
I really like Ivan Toney. For a big classic front man he’s a fantastic footballer. But he’s basically like a God for Brentford. There’s no chance they’d sell him and especially not so late in the window. I don’t think a club of their stature would be able to replace him with only 2 weeks left.
-
You really think he’s a can’t miss kind of striker? I don’t see that personally. He isn’t a Haaland/Aguero/Lewa/Kane sort of level where I can see him coming to England and scoring 20 league goals. He looks good but not incredible to me. And for £100m I’d want someone less risky after the Lukaku debacle.
-
I’ve literally never heard of half these guys. 🤣 But even the ones I have heard of would be just as risky as Auba. Maybe even more so because at least he’s played multiple seasons in the PL. That’s what I meant. There isn’t any sure thing out there. No top class striker who stands out above everyone. To be clear, I don’t necessarily WANT Auba. I’m just at the acceptance phase of this window. I’ll give him a a chance and hope for the best.
-
Tbf, we’re still superior to Arse at every position on the pitch other than striker. I wouldn’t swap a single one of their best XI for one of ours. And our squad is much better as well. It’s definitely true that this Auba deal is questionable but there just aren’t many options out there.
