  3. The Real Madrid 'Galacticos' of the early 2000s are the biggest underachievers in football history. Look at the team they had- Figo, Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Beckham, Raul, Casillas etc. it was by an absolute mile the best and most talented squad (not just the best XI) in the world between 2000 and 2007. In those 7 years they won only 1 Champions League, 3 league titles, 2 Super Cups and a Club World Cup. If you think of the best players of the era 2000-2010 how many played for Real Madrid? The majority, particularly between 2000-04. There were other good teams in Europe like us and Barcelona, AC Milan around 2004-2007 but in terms of squad depth and quality only AC Milan came remotely close. Top teams like Bayern Munich, Man United and Juventus were all in a bit of a lull and not as strong as they are today yet Real Madrid only managed one European cup in that time. In the league their challengers were Barcelona and for a period Valencia (Rafa Benitez's achievements with Valencia winning the league should be regarded as highly as, if not higher than Diego Simeone's title win last year). Barcelona had the best player in the world in Ronaldinho and Eto'o was then one of the best strikers in the world but Cocu, Saviola and Rivaldo were maybe a step below the Galacticos.
  4. The standard of the Premier League has declined since 2007. It is no longer the highest quality league in the world but is the most entertaining due to the poor defensive qualities of teams Rupert Murdoch ruined football
  5. Website says it is sold out. The empty seats in the bottom left that LeonDavis mentioned would be because the away team did not sell out their tickets. I would expect at least 38,000
  6. 'Abramovich ruining football' banner Chelsea net spend this summer 10 million Crystal Palace net spend this summer 13 million Banter denied.
  7. They might be shit but there isn't much to like about Crystal Palace is there? Warnock's a cunt and their fans on the whole are a bunch of mongs. They genuinely think they would have won and have cringey 'ultras' who would be right at home on Jeremy Kyle. They like to call us scum chavs yet invade the pitch to abuse the ref and make shit banners out of toilet roll about how Abramovich is what is wrong with football. Funny that they were in administration only a few years ago. Shirt memories. Anyway, they are too pony to be of any significance in the grand scheme of things and we're top of the league
  8. What's a Maribor? 6-0 please Chels, this lot probably don't even know the offside rule, let alone play football for a living.
  9. Surely there isn't anything involved with renaming Stamford Bridge for the amount they are giving us each year. They would be giving us at least 10 million more. Tyrannosaurus Ron is stupid but not that stupid.
  10. Despite never having played for Chelsea, which English midfielder has scored for us in a Cup final and set up 2 Chelsea goals including an inch-perfect through ball to Didier Drogba in 2010?
  11. Roy Keane is, of course, the first name that comes to mind when you think of the words 'class' and 'respect'
  12. Looks like they are discussing playing games abroad again. They can sod off, there's a clue in the name English Premier League. Just another step towards taking the game away from normal fans
  13. It is. Just the congested Christmas schedule, usually happens. Thanks BT for a 1245 kick off at the other end of the country again you muppets. Looks like the annual Stoke piss up is going out the window this year too.
  14. Wembley and Twickenham both have regulations on the amount of events that can be held there each season. We wouldn't be able to use either given these regulations and even if we did we could spend over a year trying to get the relevant local council to increase the number of events
  15. So are these spanners who go on about how Twickenham is the home of rugby and football should never be played there aware that we aren't moaning about how they often use Wembley and how about half of the venues for the 2016 rugby world cup are Premier League stadia?
  16. If you're going to let off a flare at least 1- Make sure it's actually a flare and not a smoke bomb 2- Do it during the game 3- Don't do it in the concourse 4- Don't blame the late kick off on understaffing of stewards when it's because you let off a smoke bomb 5- Don't all stand there like muppets taking selfies and uploading them to Instagram saying 'Look at me I'm well 'ard got a cheeky pint at Shitford Bridge gonna destroy Chavski look we got a flare Clowns. By the way, the Arsenal team bus got stuck in traffic next to a Chelsea pub after the game and was covered by 'London's First London's Finest' and 'First London Club to Win the Champions League' stickers by Chelsea fans.
  17. CESC FABREGAS, HE LEFT because YOU'RE SHIT Will hopefully have the European cup banner out in the Matthew Harding tomorrow
  18. Sorry about the late response, been pretty manic at work recently Fortunately the one I did manage to ask used to work for KSS who were the architects for the Shed and MH ends and the West Stand when they were all rebuilt in the 90s. She said if you look at how much the pitch has moved south over the years since the 1970s it doesn't leave us with a huge amount of room to expand the Shed End. The boundary with the old shed wall is only a few metres from the back of the current stand (where the entrances to the upper and lower tiers are) despite the old shed being massive. An expanded stand would mean the circulation area behind the stand would need to be wider to accommodate more people in an evacuation. This would require the demolition or partial demolition of the old Shed wall and the hotel/Sports bar complex as well as offices on Fulham Road that the club do not own. A lot of space between the current Shed end and Fulham Road would need to be totally flattened which is quite a large area. If we did this however we would meet requirements of more emergency exit space AND have space to expand. If and it is a very big if, the whole area behind the Shed was knocked down (bare in mind this is a very large amount of privately owned office space) then she said the capacity of the shed could potentially double. However, this would have an impact on the ramp entrance to the East Stand which would be cut off. Design wise, it may be viable to completely rebuild with a single tier stand as the current lower tier may not support a big increase in size of the current upper tier. In terms of the West Stand she mentioned that it was incredibly difficult to get planning permission for it with its current height. An expansion or rebuild (unlikely given it was only completed in 2001) would not only be a major issue with the council but would also require destruction of the Oswald Stoll foundation behind it. (Imagine the field day Martin Lipton would have with that- Blues destroy war vetrans home and leave them on street to die). This is because the stand would need to get taller with perhaps another floor of concourse built which would require significant expansion to the current facade. It would also worsen the pre/post match bottleneck caused by people from the Shed, West and Matthew Harding stands going towards Fulham Broadway. If we were to expand the West Stand it would require practically the total destruction of the Oswald Stoll Foundation and buildings on the Fulham road. According to the architect you would still not get much increase in capacity- maybe 5 or 6000 with all this work plus massive battles with the council and residents over height. New seats would be Nou-Camp esque in distance from pitch. Decking over the District line is possible in the case of the Matthew Harding stand but another exit not onto Fulham Road is vital. The decking would be fairly expensive but could help to create a route to Fulham Broadway station not via Fulham Road and presumably would extend as far as the current extent of the museum/Chelsea club building. These would need to be knocked down in the case of any expansion. The new exit would presumably create some sort of route to West Brompton station too although consultation about an enclosed walkway (as has been proposed) could cause problems with owners of Brompton Cemetery as it is a Royal Park or alternatively the residents of Seagrave Road. If going via Seagrave Road I think a few houses and a church would have to go because of the rights to sunlight they wouldn't have. Anyway, suppose we could get another exit on the north side of the Stadium, demolish the homes of Brompton Park Crescent and Seagrave Road and could then expand the Matthew Harding stand. It depends what the club want, but if we are going for an expansion, an extension to the upper tier would not be too offensive given the rake (gradient) of the stand matches that of the East Upper which it connects to and isn't too far off the rake of the West Upper so architecturally it wouldn't be too offensive. That or an equally sized third tier would gain us around 5,000 extra seats. In terms of total rebuilding, space is used quite efficiently but we didn't rule out, with expansion, around 8,000 more seats in total. This would take us to just under 50,000. Finally the East stand. Again, decking is an option but would be very difficult to get permission for given that it would border a Royal Park. Unless major structural changes are made (as well as battle for planning permission over height) the stand can't really be expanded. It is already very efficient for evacuation and space usage and and we may not even be able to have the same gradient if we expanded the upper tier given regulations have tightened the maximum rake allowed since it was built. You would also be miles from the pitch. Rebuilding would not change capacity much given the footprint of the stand would still probably be a bit smaller than the West stand. We would also need more circulation space behind the East stand if the Matthew Harding stand was also expanded. If we expanded the Shed end we would lose the main entrance to the lower and upper tiers to the East stand too so it is a bit of a difficult one. The absolute maximum we can hope for from the rebuilding of the East stand would be 2-3000 if the architect's estimates are correct despite it costing a massive amount. Finally we would need to look into a new car park for television broadcast vans which currently reduce capacity for Champions League games. Modern stadia are often equipped with an elliptical underground road which would be expensive (although maybe possible if the shed end area is expanded). We may also need to make alterations to Fulham Broadway station etc.
