Chelsea ready to offer Fernando Torres plus cash to land AC Milan starChelsea are willing to offer Fernando Torres plus cash for AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy Edinson Cavani remains the Blues’ top target but the London outfit are ready to turn to Milan’s Italian international after growing frustrated at Napoli’s stalling over their move for the Uruguay forward. Napoli are demanding €52m for Cavani, with Chelsea reportedly willing to pay just €41m but the clubs are set for further talks in Naples on Tuesday. If a resolution is not found, new Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho has already chosen El Shaarawy as a ‘Plan B’ and is willing to offer Torres to the Rossoneri to sweeten the deal. The Special One admitted the Spain international striker, who cost the Blues £50m in 2011, had to improve next season, leading to suggestions he would be sold to fund a summer of big spending. Milan would be reluctant to lose Italy international El Shaarawy but are thought to be willing to negotiate with both Chelsea and Torres.

Cavani to Chelsea rumours raise suspicions The latest shots have been fired in the battle for the signature of Edinson Cavani, with SSC Napoli's official radio station announcing that a fee has been agreed with Chelsea over a move to Stamford Bridge and that personal terms have also been settled. The curious element of this salvo is that Radio Marte has cited a "very reliable source" for their information, which automatically casts a pall of doubt over the veracity of the story. Either the story is true or it is not, which therefore begs a number of questions. - Chelsea agree Cavani deal - report If Radio Marte is indeed the Serie A club's official radio station, why are they not using a direct quote from, say, president Aurelio De Laurentiis? If an official quote from a named representative from Napoli is not available, why are Radio Marte dealing with what at best appears to be conjecture? And if the story is true despite the shadowy nature of the source, why has no other media outlet independently confirmed it to be the case? Most major football clubs these days have a media mouthpiece. It can come in the shape of an in-house television station such as Chelsea TV or a newspaper that is directly influenced by the higher echelons of the club's executive, such as Real Madrid's hold over Marca in Spain. What they all have in common is that they are always decidedly "on-message" and can act as either a source of official information or as means of communicating a form of corporate propaganda into the wider world. With Manchester City having formally pulled out of the race to sign the Uruguay international and Real Madrid having yet to make a bid for the player, a cynic might suggest that this latest "development" is merely a way of prompting other interested parties into action in an attempt to maximise the revenue they hope to receive from selling the player. For their part, Chelsea generally refuse to comment on transfer speculation until it is made official, hence their silence on this matter speaks volumes. Of course, that is not to say that Cavani will not end up in West London. But before anyone gets too excited, it is worth remembering all the unnamed sources that stated a few months ago that a deal to bring Radamel Falcao to Stamford Bridge was done and dusted. Attributable quotes are the first step towards confirming the authenticity of a potential transfer deal, and there has yet to be one. If Cavani does join Chelsea there will be genuine cause for celebration, but until then the champagne should be kept on ice.

Chelsea FC have been backed to make a surprise move for Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Kyle Walker this summer. Bookmaker Sky Bet have taken significant money for the shock transfer to happen and have slashed the odds from 11/2 to 2/1. Manager Jose Mourinho is sure to have his own ideas about which players he wants at Stamford Bridge during his second spell in charge. He may not be too enthused about having Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic as the right-back options and therefore be seeking a replacement. A swoop for Walker would have definite similarities to when Mourinho targeted and landed Ashley Cole from Arsenal during his initial stay in west London. Although there is no indication Walker is unsettled at White Hart Lane, it would be understandable if the Sheffield-born player was tempted by the prospect of Champions League football on which Spurs just missed out last season. Despite being just 23, Walker has already worn the colours of five different clubs during his career having had four separate loan spells. Sheffield United and Tottenham have been his two parent clubs so far, while he has been on loan at Northampton Town, QPR, Aston Villa and back at the Blades.

FERNANDO TORRES is seeking showdown talks with Jose Mourinho about his future at Chelsea. The striker is aware of shock reports in Spain about a £17m bid for him by Barcelona, while Napoli are also keen on the 29-year-old. And Torres wants to find out in the next week exactly where he stands under new Blues boss Mourinho. Torres refused to answer questions about his future yesterday in New York, where he is with Spain preparing for the Confederations Cup, which kicks off this weekend in Brazil. But a source close to the player said: “We are ignoring the rumours. Fernando has a contract with Chelsea. This is the reality.” Mourinho could leave Torres sweating on a meeting with a hard-line approach, just as he has with club captain John Terry. It is understood his stance has not changed since he gave a lukewarm response about the Spaniard at his press conference on Monday. Torres, who still has three years left on his current deal, said: “I will wait until the end of the Confederations Cup, then I will speak with him. “I think he deserves that respect from me. “That respect starts by speaking with him face to face and deciding what is the best for all of us.”
