In a completely different sense though I'd imagine. People are upset over Mata going cos he clearly has unfinished business here. Where as Frank, hes done everything and more he possibly could of. Need to celebrate him the day he leaves, not get upset.

With two players coming in who aren't eligible for the CL, and two (KDB, Bertrand and potentially five with Mata, Ba and Essien) leaving the club, how small is our Champions League squad looking? I make it 17 players + Blackman, Kalas and van Ginkel.

No one is 'hating' him. On the contrary, I think most people are exciting about giving him a chance. Its just underwhelming to see a relatively unknown come in at the same time you're selling your £37m double player-of-the-year. If this had happened two weeks ago alongside Matic, they'd be heaps more positivity.

The news of Essien leaving will be just as sad as Mata. What a player this guy was in his prime. Covered EVERY blade of grass on the pitch, and has deservedly won every trophy going here. You were brilliant Michael. Best of luck, always.

Basically, they showed an interview of Jose last night saying that we won't be in for a new striker as we have Demba Ba for cover to Samuel and Nando. After that interview, Dharmesh Sheth (presenter on Sky Sports News) said 'though we understand Chelsea are in talks to bring in another big signing. More on that when we get it'. No other clues. We'll see I guess.

Last player who could consistently win a header from an opposition long ball ahead of our centre backs? Ballack? I can see Matic improving a lot of the simple aspects within our midfield. Not saying for a minute that this guys going to set the league alight, he has a lot to prove, but this could be a very decent bit of business by Gourlay and Jose.

No its not against rules but Benfica have to give Chelsea and Matic permission to do it, of course. Clubs are allowed to continue discussions and iron out the details whilst a player is undergoing a medical/discussing personal terms, but obviously thats at the discretion of the selling club. But it would imply that an agreement is either done or very close.
