The attacking system that had us breeze the Champions League?
It's all hypothetical where we would be without Lukaku but you would be fooling yourself if you think our system "didn't work" when we had Havertz/Werner/CHO/Mount/Pulisic/Ziyech as the interchangeable front three. I'd confidentially wager that we'd at least look like a functioning side with a plan vs taking two massive steps backwards buying Lukaku and not having a fucking clue with what we want in our attack for the past 5-6 months.
Liverpool attack - Presses and are involved in build up.
Klopp and Liverpool - Buy high pressing build up players in Jota and Diaz
Chelsea attack - Presses and are involved in build up
Tuchel and Chelsea - Buy a counter attacking CF who doesn't press nor involved in build up.
Is it really that shocking to see why we are miles off?
No attacker is striving because of Tuchel and more importantly, his shoehorning of Lukaku which in itself pushes Mount and Havertz further wider considering Lukaku whores the central spot without moving.
Virtually everything we feared at the start of August, has become a reality.
- Lukaku shoehorned and disrupting attack and system
- Lukaku causing internal drama when dropped
- Lukaku missing in big games
