Sorry but how is this ridiculous "The ref saw it to some extent so we can't retrospective ban him" rule not the fault of the FA? They make the damn rules and bend them whenever they like. The ref must have seen Costa's 'stamps' as the ball was right there next to the incident, what else would the ref be doing, looking at the birds? But he still got a retrospective ban.
The FA have no morals, shame and even though a rulebook does exist they only abide by it when it suits them or their agenda.
They're a corrupt, contemptible shower of shit.

Agree with your whole post, except with the examples you give. I can understand why those aren't investigated afterwards (even think it's not possible?).
Better example imo was in the first leg:

I thought he gave a defensive performance worthy of Azpi today, but it seems that not many are of the same opinion. I've looked around a few news outlets' ratings pages and I see 5s (!?) and 6s; on Chelsea forums, his performance is barely mentioned. Sure, he didn't do much going forward (did anyone?), but he won a huge number of duels, and almost no successful opposition attacks came down his side of the pitch. Contrast that with what was happening everywhere else on the pitch. To me, it looks like he has begun to find his feet in English football, and should now be in proper contention for a starting berth.

He's being overplayed, simple as.
No need for him to play tonight. Ramires' energy on the counter-attack and as part of a high-pressure system would have been more suited. Mikel bossed a midfield in a UCL final, he can do the job well enough. Having the two of them in there was mental, they almost got in each other's way. It's called a double pivot for a reason; one player sits, one player marauds. Doesn't work when both sit. It causes mayhem defensively as neither shows any sense of being proactive in closing people down. Invites so much pressure onto the defence.

What should he have done in that situation? Didn't see the goal back yet, but I thought it made sense what he did there. Sterling was on full speed running on him, by backing off and not making a challenge he didn't risk fouling him (possible penalty and red card for sure). And fouling would've been very likely, since in that situation even a little bit of contact is enough if you miss the ball (like with a keeper on one vs ones). By backing off he made sure there was no space behind him, so Sterling couldn't get past him and he had a chance to block the shot or at least make it harder, giving Courtois a better change. Obviously Sterling finish was great and not saying it was ideal, but like I said I think it made sense what he did.
Cahill had some horrible performances last weeks, but I actually thought this was one of his better games. Had one great interception and I blame Mikel/Matic organisation more for the goal then him.
