If we are honest he clearly got the ability but his mentality is not of a big player. He seems to have no desire to ever reach that next level and clearly content with where he is atm, a great player who will play well when the circumstance suits him. He will never be like Ronaldo or Messi because it seems he hates responsibility and got no intention of improving his desire. That is fine as he is still an excellent player for us, but at the same time he won't ever win the biggest personal prizes in football and be compared to the greats despite his seemingly unlimited potential.

Just as I thought in preseason, he just doesn't seem right atm. Physically and mentally he doesn't seem ready, and his 'warrior' spirit seems to have turned completely into thug-Pepe like now. We need both sides of Costa, if it is just the bad side added with injury we are in trouble. This is why I always thought he could never be our real no1 long term, we really need a young top class striker.

Everyone who predicted this state of the team before the match was branded knee jerk and troll, now you can see for yourself all our issues.

Just as predicted in preseason, his big game tactic finally got found out. Usually they would be limited to a couple of chances max the whole match, but now they could have been 5-0 up by half time. I fear for us, I really do especially if we do not make any new signing.

Is Ivanovic thinks he is fucking Roberto Carlos or something? WTF is up with him trying these long range shots EVERY MATCH RECENTLY? Maybe you scored a good long range goal once over a year ago doesn't mean you are suddenly good at it.

What happened to all our pace? It is like everyone just came out of a 100 mins match and had to put on their kit ready for this straight after, all look so tired and disinteresred. No pace, no running, no aggression at all.

Nope can't afford to, think we are saving up for stadium like Arsenal did. Didn't we apparently fail to agree personal term with him and that rarely happened with us before.

Predictable line up, called by everyone from the 1st post. Let's see if our approach is any different to last season, I expect us to surrender posession and have barely any shot on target. If they score 1st early it is game over before it even begins.

Not gung-ho but at least good COUNTER ATTACKING FOOTBALL. Not just park the bus and not having a shot on target until the 70th min or something like that. All I ask for is at least giving it a right go like we did in 13-14 and not park it until a lucky break like we did last season. Also playing to your strength which is counter attacking football, the only thing we are great at. It would be undignified if we just camp around our box for the whole match as if we are Watford or some small club with limited players.

Off the field is problematic enough, let's hope we show some dignity on the pitch with some good tactic and performance and not just desperate 11 behind the ball stuff for damage limitation after last week's result. Knowing him though we will probably do just that and then people come in and praise him for a tactical masterclass and how great of a 'chess' match it has been :/

I know and by doing this he will keep them from jumping on his back. It is not hard for media to put 1+1=2 together by combining Oscar being dropped this weekend with his seemingly unhappy celebration last week, by saying he is injured no one can question Jose. Actually in some cases it helps if he lies because it avoids feeding more fuel to the media fire and that is probably a good enough reason for him to.

The only way any chance of humiliation happens is if they score early and our bus parking plan go out of the window, we push on and then leave lot more space for them to explore. But then again since it is Jose he will probably be happy if we are only 1-0 down by the 75th min and probably will bring on Mikel/Zouma if they don't start lol.

How did you infer that from my post? I didn't say my preference for anything, just stating my opinion on his career here this season at least. I couldn't care who we play if we win the league, maybe even 11 unkown players from academy if possible as long as we win the league. I am just saying the impact this guy makes here would be minimal unless one of the above condition happens. Hence since he won't directly impact our performance this season there is no reason to get excited about this signing, especially since he is gonna be a backup LB and we all know Jose hates to rotate his defenders often.
