RVP moved to MU and despite loving Arsenal for 7-8 years, now he is treating them as nothing but an opposition that he likes to score again. In top clubs the days of manager deciding every single aspect of football is over unless you are Arsenal or MU but we don't know LVG situation will play out. All the clubs from Liverpool, Spurs, City, us, Real, Barca, Bayern, Dortmund, Napoli...etc now all have football directors and they will consult with managers over deals, but not reliance on them entirely. That is because of the job demand of top level manager, who knows if they sack their managers they will be stuck with the players preferred by that manager, so the best way is to sign players that have a long term future at the club and can fit multiple manager's styles, not just one.

Agreed, that is what board of directors are for. Jose cannot have it his own way anymore, seeing as his own position might be under scrutiny next season if we end up trophy-less again. Although the likes of Tiago sounds like his signing and not the board.

If Fab plays as a CAM it is the end of Oscar career here. There is just no rotation, I doubt Oscar will accept that. I think Fab will play as a CM and I will be shocked if he is signed to play as a no10. Wouldn't be surprise if PSG already arranged for a deal with Oscar after WC including Lavezzi or something which is why we are interested in signing a good attacking mid as replacement. Because they cannot play as just CM but rather CAM. Mata especially, he was lacking physicality so he could not cope with the demand of a CM, he was always the best as a no10, RW or LW. Same with Kevin, who mainly plays on the wing for Belgium and now in Germany. If they could play as CM like Modric/Fab I am sure they would still be at the club now. Also too good to refuse offers came in and we just had to take it. I mean 30m for Fab and 37m for Mata or 16m for Kevin is much better value for money overall considering Fabregas is better than both players, yes even Mata( there is a reason why Mata was always a sub and Fab always start for Spain).

Which is true, but he isn't bought for that. Matic will be the one who will now do the most defensive work. Fab is like our Modric, linking between defence and attack without actually participating in defence a lot.

Never heard of that Spanish new website before and its radio made it sounds like TalkSport to me. It might be true but don't put too much hope into this deal being done very soon, I would say at least until the end of next week when WC starts is the earliest or maybe even after the WC.

He is a legend but no way. We need players to continue our history, retiring shirts aren't suitable anymore nowadays. I agree that it is sad to see him leave but people need to stop going to extreme emotional behaviors. We all knew he was gonna leave either last year, this year or next summer anyway. If we retire the Lampard shirt, who will be the new Lampard for us? Did we retire our shirts when the likes of Roy Bentley, Bobby Tambling retired...etc?

Basically our interest in him is pretty much real now at this stage, it is not just baseless rumors anymore. I think if we bid 30m Barca will accept, the thing is does he really want to come to us? Yes we all know his 1st option is Arsenal, but they are not interested. MU or City don't seem to be interested too, making it in theory that just us vs Liverpool. Now that is assuming he wants/will go to England, all we know is that PSG might come out tomorrow and put in a 40m bid then he will be going to them. Rumors are that he is reluctant to sign with us because he doesn't have a good relationship with Jose-I hope not.

If he was clever he could try to follow Dave example at the start of the season, waiting to take his chance and impresses when the moment come. However, now he is talking like Courtois(who is possibly the best GK in the world atm) despite having no where near status. He needs to learn to be quiet sometime, not just outspoken all the time especially if he doesn't have the talent(yet) to back it up with.

Agreed, because he is gonna go in every tackle in a meaningless friendly especially with rumors that he has been carrying a small knee injury. I am all for criticizing players but sometime people are not doing it right or at appropriate moments.
