  1. But we did play against Leicester this year. What do you recall from that match ? They came back into the game because of the Disassi howler but you think they showed anything ?
  2. I 'm not against the idea of total domination and the passing ball. But to score goals it must be done in an intelligent way. Clever running off the ball is needed to create empty spaces. Otherwise we are to expect goals from 70 yards out, like Caicedo's last one, or it's back to Hutch years with the throw ins. Under Potter - Lamps - early on with Poch we were so predictable.
  3. Leicester finished neck and neck with Ipswich. Was Lecester a better team ?
  4. Blair was around long before Bush and any British pm is second string to POTUS. But anyway I don't rate him as a great politician.
  5. Was n't Nkunku supposed to be the clinical number 9 ? He was injured but do you thing this has died ?
  6. Τηε WMD story was silly and was n't even needed to give more justification to the operation desert strom. First in the summer of 2002 the UN had done a thorough job and there were no WMD in Iraq. Second if Saddam had WMD he would say so to deter the invasion. Saddam was a WMD man. In 1984 his nuclear reactors were destroyed by the Israelis (operation Opera). Then the chemicals he used against the Kurds. No doubt he was hoping to be able to start again sometime, but in 2003 he had nothing of the sort and Bush-Blair made fools of themselves. Bush should have known better. Blair imho was never number 10 material. A former pizza boy operating in the City of London area. Has seen Oxford in postcards. During Blair's years as prime minister the brexit movement grew and became a monster force.
  7. To attack vertically-quickly and with intent somebody has to create empty spaces. Or the opposition are in some desperate situation and all of them have moved into your half and you escape. Has to be a combination of passing ball and running off the ball to create those spaces. It goes without saying that if Maresca ball is a retrograde step to Lamps ball then it's useless.
  8. They are doing it effectively. When we had Lamps, before Tuchel, we were doing it terribly - endless passes without purpose then hit a brick wall. People were also accusing pool of the Keegan years of being typically British and shoot balls into the air - but the european cups were going to Enfield.
  9. It was ambassador April Gillespie who said to Saddam Hussein "we are not taking sides in your onflict with Kuwait". It was n't Albright. But if that was a trap then Michael Gorbatchev was also part of it. After the invasion the commies everywhere were jumping with joy as they were of course supporting Iraq. It could n't cross their mind that USSR was not going to use the power of veto in the UN to stop the operation desert shield. It hit them as a bombshell and we all knew Iraq was defeated from that moment. At the time Michael Gorbatchev was the undisputed leader and true hero of world communism - the reds called him a "traitor" eventually but that was in the future. The Chinese also did not use their veto but maybe that was expected.
  10. Well, what happened was this: Early 2022-23 things were looking sh*t -with Tuchel- and forget the results in the easy CL qualification group. I don't know whose fault that was. Happened in 2015-16 and 2017-18 as well with Mou and Antonio respectively just after both Mou and Antonio had won the league. Sh*t situations happen - it's a law of football. Then Potter was disliked from day one by the fans who wanted Tuchel to stay and in any case he made things even sh*tt*er. Then Poch continued taking as further down the ladder, till March this year when his systems started to work. Because of that he would rather have stayed than go, I agree. It would be an experiment but are n't we back to square one now, experimenting ? Nevertheless I 'm not going to say it spells doom, unless the board with their antics have it in mind to weaken the team. This last worries me now and not Maresca really.
  11. This is a ... Mat Busby contract. Let's hope he makes it though !
  12. You are making a mistake because look at the budget Pep has as City manager, as well as the budgets he had as Barcelona manager. The same mistake some people make with horse racing jockeys. With horses the best jockeys have something like 20% strike rate, the so called mediocrities only 2%. But look at the horses the champions are given and the horses the others are given. If a rule was enacted to assign horses to jockeys at random the margins would close. Not 20% to 2% but 11% to 6%, something like that. So why is Maresca not the force to come ? Let's not criticize him at a time the players do not even train as well, because it's summer ! The gimmicks of the board is another matter altogether.
  13. Maybe we play Europa: https://www.givemesport.com/manchester-united-could-face-relegation-to-europa-conference-league/?link_source=ta_first_comment&taid=66547cd0faceea0001fe3b69&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR3h_RjjVHBmu6QcCGN3sWO4RV9j0WMecn0YejWMXv4EONiHpU38h3FK8wk_aem_AcYms30DwHB1g8WNlt4Hnv4IdCGT1OVJYtgV4JfutZ1Jf8sowKeo46siVVzwm25jGNx93r3a18TWjFi4m_jupAgL
  14. Your argument is rubbished from the moment you don't know who is an illegal immigrant and who is not. Only the cops know that if they go to the Home Office website and search. Therefore with this talk everybody is attacked the same and your argument is rubbished.
  15. Possession football until the ... capital market commission steps in and goals every blue moon. What we need is the Real Madrid style of play. We need fast forward moves, running off the ball to find empty spaces - ideally with a more solid defense than we had recently to cover.
  16. We had no trouble winning the two europa cups we played. Only Benfica offered serious resistance in the first one, the final with Benitez. Then in 2019 we did some stupid things and we made the semi against German midgets Eintracht a dangerous affair, but other than that it was plain sailing. Now the conference league is a competition for little children. This year Aston Villa -before their collapse- was a good team for the conference league. The rest are below par. If FFP is somehow creating problems should we participate then we must stay out.
  17. About illegal immigration the open border fanciers in Greece were supposed to be the woke SYRIZA government of 2015-19. Everybody things they are a joke of a party now (which to my mind is not so funny anymore because Greece needs a serious opposition party - must n't become the undisputed property of one party, the present government party). Yet in 2017 it was them jokers who brought the EU special force, the FRONTEX, whose task is to prevent illegal crossings of the borders. So illegal immigration is always illegal immigration, for me, for you, for everybody. But this is not the mind of the racist. The mind of the racist is what I describe.
  18. Well, you do understand what I 'm saying better than a preacher understands his bible. Begin your replies with some other more decent expression in the future I would suggest. We are talking about the racists mentality here, not about me vetting visitors to my home.
  19. Not sure ... What an odd expression when you actually do understand perfectly. The illegal bit is second-third-fourth consideration. Because who knows who is illegal or not ? Only the cops after they have looked into their computer. They don't care about legal or illegal status more than they care about the local tramps - clochards. The workers and the professionals is they are after. Put that in pipe and smoke.
  20. The biggest exponent going on for Trump is racism. Racism dierected against immigrants and particularly against hard working - money making immigrants. If you think they are concerned with tramp immigrants who go round and round in the streets, it's a big fat lie. It's theur smokescreen. It's those people who are part of the economy but of foreign nationality they are against. There are many such people and they are the product of the close ties and the alliances that were formed after the war. Nobody in his right mind got up one morning and said "I will go to Tramp land, or brexit land". It's the product of the alliances, but now even these historical alliances are questioned - the nazi revival.
  21. Well, the way all this reflects on the common citizen is mainly taxes. Take for example the Greek economic crisis. You are a company middle manager. Your salary was 3,000 per month - they make it 1,500. What affected you is the new taxes, not the negative reports from Brussels as such. Taxes are always unfair. If you complain to your local taxman he will just say "please don't bring your personal problems here". In Greece we have fun these days. The entire staff of the tax authority of the town of Chalkida have been arrested and are now in jail. Those had organized a mafia group, blackmailing local businessmen. Those local businessmen it seems were facing fines of varying amounts for various misdemeanours-inaccuracies in their tax reports. So the Mafia men -or women rather- were saying to them "you are to be be fined 100,000 euros, give us 20,000 and we are going to fix it". This has been going on for years and they made themselves rich. Until someone spilled the beans ... Walked in with 10,000 euros in marked banknotes - then the police sept in - arrested everybody.
  22. Economy is never good - by definition. Sometimes it gets worse but it's never good. Remember the Charlie Chaplin speech about the economy, the one they considered pro-communist and deported him ? Well, that period is now called "the golden period of the US economy". This is because everytime, somebody has a grudge and believes things can get better. Then the political opposition always takes advantage. The politicians job and that of their trolls is to make 20-30 statements a day. If it was me I would say "why all those superfluous statements ?" but it is how politics work. Trump and his cronies in particular blame foreigners for everything, even the allies. But this buys votes, it's tested.
  23. It was n't up to him any longer. The main reason we are unhappy is because the sacking probably means the board have in mind to allow us to become weaker next season.
  24. City were a pain in the eye for 90 minutes. Their goal was an Onana gift. United too only twice managed to attack (1 goal each time !). It was a despicable affair and City did n't want to win. De Bruyne below par - substituted, Haaland was a lamppost.
