  1. The Greek Tsipr-exit lasted for 5 hours. Last year (5 July) Tsipras held his referendum and won it. I went to sleep early, woke up at 5 in the morning, opened google news - Varoufakis resigned it said. The English evzons may last a bit longer. Other than that it was exactly the same. Spray guns the size of US Air Force - RAF together. Stacks of hay all over the place. In Gr it was Putin is coming with trillions of euros. In the UK it was ... the open seas. It looks like it is literally the open seas.
  2. Aguero was the worst Argentinian player. Iguain was the one who gave away the trophy with the open goal chance but Aguero was pitiful.
  3. DIALOGUES OF OUR TIMES Britannicus (brexit lover) - Bloody immigrants. Europius (non-brexit lover) - Hey, knock it off ! Britannicus - Errr, yes of course, that's not what I meant. I mean we are concerned with the invisible Brussels dictatorship. Europius - And what exactly do you mean by that ? Britannicus - Errr, hmmm, bloody immigrants !
  4. That's true and false at the same time. Immigration controls is basically a thing of the seventies. We (GR) were not in the EU until 1980 but I have seen old letters of my father's former school students addressed to him from England in 1965. Those school students after university were employed by various firms. Then in the 70's things were strict, after the 80s it was free. But the environment is kind of hostile sometimes. At the time I had no idea. I vaguely remember a Greek newspaper in the mid sixties saying something about the graffitti "keep Britain white" in London streets. I thought this was an aberration, the work of some fringe elements. But not so in reality. Some people even believed that foreigners from western countries represented a danger bigger than that of "international communism" - the scourge of cold war years. How can one work and make progress like that ? If the environment resembles Dachau concentration camp, because of the said mentalities. it creates many diffculties.
  5. We are many European supporters here. Most European supporters did not want Brexit, as is natural. I hope we will all stay loyal to the club and forget / downgrade the Brexit situation.
  6. Brexit finishes down the field at Newbury. Funky footsteps is the winner.
  7. Speaking of serial killers I had a certain facebook experience last year. It was the photoshop pic of the queen with a Chelsea scarf after we won the league. Made it share in a fb football group with the caption "the queen too is one of us". A scouser replies and he says "what ? since when ? how dare you ? this is photoshop". Then I said "we are the army's team, that's why" - because of the nickname "pensioners" we also have (the old soldiers homes that are situated near Stamford Bridge). He went mad then and he also saw my Greek name and he was shouting "ou-ou-ou-ou Greeks, you will see what will happen to you after Brexit".
  8. Poles and Germans seem to be the most worried according to a piece of news. In Greece they don't want it but the two camps who are strongly in favour are the golden dawnies (neonazi), the grass roots of the left wing syriza and the orthodox communists. Syriza is officially against that is and the communists have declared neutrality, but their supporters are strongly in favour. They feel it is going to destabilise Europe and bring their "dictatorship of the proletariat" closer. Most Greeks are pro-eu however. In 2003 with the parliament dominated by conservatives and socialists the euro constitution passed with a big majority. There was not even talk about a referendum and the two parties forgot their heated exchanges for one day to vote in favour. The euro constitution idea was of course abandoned later, after France and Holland voted against it in referendums. The feeling of the non-communists in Greece is that the modern free Europe really started here in 1940, or rather simultaneously in Greece and in the UK. Because only Greece and the UK were left fighting the axis forces, plus I should add the American volunteer pilots of La Manche (battle of Britain). America itself was neutral and USSR was also neutral. Only the communists don't believe this and they like to distort history. The other lot, the neonazis, are a new fruit. The ultra rightists of the past were not, Papadopoulos the dictator and others like him. I remember in the fifth form at school we were given a world geography book with the bird symbol of the dictatorship in the back cover but inside it, ιn the chapter for Africa it condemned the South African apartheid (it's a system that represses the black populations it said).
  9. Look, the heart of Brexit beats here: - Monopoly industries. Big business is divided two ways. Those who want open markets and look forward to internationalise and those who want to lock the customers to a single choice. The former are bremainers, the latter are brexiters. - Race hate. Brexiters say no, but it's an elephant on the roof learning foreign languages (as the saying goes). We are now being subjected to a deluge of hate propaganda against foreign nurses and nuns "stealing" the jobs from "poor Britons". So that's how the system works. Anything else would n't even make a Brexiteer wake up in the morning and go to the polling station.
  10. EU itself is a trade agreement basically. It's either good or bad. It does n't make sense to knock the symbol EU anymore than it makes sense to say London should not be our capital, but Bristol. But it's not only that. It is also the political wing of the NATO alliance and many people see it as "home". It's been 65 years now. People were born and died as EU citizens. It's not last year's product. What you say has little chance of materialising because we are in the midst of a hate environment, created by the Brexiteers and others similar. Other thinks more diabolical stand a higher chance of happening.
  11. Greece was liberated in 1944 by the Brits. The departing nazis were rounding up villages setting them on fire and shooting the civilians. Because the British forces were weak a communist insurgency followed. So as soon the last nazi troops were north of the border, communist rebels entered the remaining small villages, setting them on fire rounding up the populations and shooting them. Lasted until 1949.
  12. Brexit is no good for me. It means no freedom of movement, no trade and commerce, no-no-no .... Those who seem to be very happy are the extreme right wing and the communists. Greek communists are planning street parties if Brexit wins. Cameron talks about ISIS too. I don't have muslim acquaintances or neighbours to verify this. Only a Kuwaiti friend who used to admire Margaret Thatcher. I hope it loses. The immediate effect for us in Greece will be strong and aggressive communism.
  13. Generalizations are bad. But the right wing fanatics (as well as some seemingly not so fanatics ...) stand for racism and ethnic cleansing, i.e. they want to hurt people. The hate propaganda armed the gunman.
  14. I 'm talking about the fanatics. It's exactly like I describe. White jihaddists.
  15. They say now the killer was a member of a pro-apartheid action group. Those groups have been guilty of many terrorist actions but this one was senseless. In Greece they murdered musician Pavlos Fyssas in 2013, but the days before that they had "promised" us a hot month of actions. Whatever excuses they made up later, accident, madman killer, were proved to be false. The murder of Jo Cox was senseless I must admit. Although an mp, she was moving about without personal guards and exposing herself, but it was senseless for right wing activists to attempt anything now. The killer is mad, like Bravik in Norway. For the Brexit movement it has to be said however that it's heart beats in the neo-nazi rhythm. Take away the ideas of ethnic cleansing and racism and there is nothing left in it - they would n't even bother to vote. After the event I expect many similar victims of right wing violence, this time organised. It looks bad for persons of the "wrong colour" or ethnicity.
  16. Super hand ball Maradona in America ! The Uruguayan referees conferred for 5 minutes using their phones too. With whom and about what ??????????????? In the first replay and without even slow motion the commentator shouts "he punched the ball in". Holy smokes ! This Brazilian team is good for the bird cages.
  17. Women can be a menace. We had Cleopatra-Aspasia-Theodora in the ancient world. In the new world Mata Hari-Christine Keeler-Madame Mao-Margaret Thatcher-Frau Merkel. The list is endless but the way some jump the gun is outrageous. Against poor little Eva as well ! One thing I never understood is how on earth the two physios in the incident could have known they were supposed to stay out of the pitch. Mourinho is 30 meters away and starts his shouting and jumping up and down like Bugs Bunny act when they are already in, at the spot where Hazard is lying down.
  18. RM had the luck of the draw but they were on upward curve whereas Atl. fluffed it. The two teams we admired, PSG and Atletico, fluffed it. Bayern also but they are a Pep team so it was to be expected.
  19. I 'm afraid Atletico was shite yesterday and RM stupidly failed to win it inside the 90 minutes. Strange thing we saw ten pens without goalies ! Oblak is useless in pens, Navas is too short. Torres pen missed by Griezmann was from Grim's fairytales. Ronaldo was the worst of the 22.
  20. Empty Wembley with those two. Never seen that before. Why ? Any special reason ? The match resembled third division play off and UTD was the luckier of the two teams.
  21. I placed a bet on Sevilla scoring a third and another on the Liverpool win. The Liverpool win is still on.
  22. The substitutions gave Leicester the chance to equalize. Another misfire - the last one. Schmeichel was impressive.
  23. Stupid way of losing two points but to be fair it was not a match worthy of criticism because 'pool clearly did n't want to exert themselves. So the only thinkg worth mentioning was Eden's supergoal and his overall performence.
