chelseafc9010 got a reaction from CHOULO19 in 🇪🇸 Cesc Fàbregas
Willian and Oscar aren't better at defending in the pivot. There's two types of defending, down hill or up hill. Oscar & Willian defend up hill as they are very good at pressing and winning the football. Cesc on the otherhand prefers to defend deeper, make smart tackles and smart movement. Both are good at defending but Fab is better in the pivot and Oscar & Willian better higher up.

'The best I have ever seen? Well Salah, of course.' - Zidane on Salah after recieiving his 2006 World Cup medal.
'He is an example' - Messi speaking about Salah.
'We will never see another player like Salah' - Pele.
'I learn all of my skills from him' - Neymar admitted
'I wish I could of coached him' - Sir Alex Ferguson on Mo Salah.

chelseafc9010 got a reaction from Viper22 in 🇷🇸 Nemanja Matic
I disagree about Matic not making a difference, even if he doesn't score or make the tackle he adds confidence to the team, is much faster and more creative on the ball than Mikel, also he isn't a tree off the ball. That said it doesn't change the facts, the midfield wasn't the problem, it was the same problem as we had against Sunderland; no width, no attacking fullbacks, no one to finish chances.

There's nothing laughable about it because it's the truth. Technique reflects all aspects of football : passing, touch/close control dribbling, shooting and oscar is painfully limited in all of these aspects bar shooting which isn't great but better than average.
It's no coincidence that the non technical aspect (workrate) is what people use to rate him as a good player and justify his inclusion in the first team/starting 11. You hear words like, He gives us balance, he helps us keep the shape etc. reminds you of anyone? Ramires.
Mats Hummels is a superb illustration that if you are technically good, people will highlight that aspect of your game more often regardless of the position and role you play in the team.
I have been watching football for a long long time (since the 80's to be precise) and have seen enough of Oscar to know he's technically limited player.

Couldn't disagree more.
This is not American football. It's all interconnected. When we employ defenders (including FBs) who cannot attack, we lose that conduit and have to attack in different ways. Same in the DLP/CM position: Matic can make a seamless and quick transition between defense and attack, while Mikel cannot. Timing is everything in football and Mikel slows the game down too much with his useless and constant short passing.
Perhaps the AMs and Costa ALSO struggled because the delivery was just a bit slower than normal. Matic wasn't there to make the transition on his own, and a different player had to do it, which also slows our attack for that player has to drop back to get the ball.
Matic can do some of what Fabregas does while Mikel can't.

now we are trying to play him every minute...

I still think we need 4-3-3 to get the best out of him.

Wow. Torres was so good. Pace, dribbling, and could finish from anywhere. Such a shame. -

One bad game can decide the outcome of a whole season.
Title contention will be extremely close and 1 point could make a huge difference. And if Cahill blunders the last game, as he's been doing lately and we lose because of him, he'll be hated and despised and all fans will turn on him and he'll be booed off the pitch. Right now we just want others to be given an opportunity. That's all.

Always believed in David, it just wasn't meant to be at Chelsea because of our play style and defence. His best season was his first season under Carlo when JT still had a bit of speed, and he was world class in the Rafa season with Ivanovic in defence because we played with a high fluid line.
Anyway on Cahill, let's be honest he is in the team because he is English and because Jose won't trust someone like Kalas or Zouma next to JT incase they push too high. The only reason we haven't moved Iva to CB and used Azpi and Luis as two attacking fullbacks is because Terry would get destroyed on the counter. Cahill has always been covered up by others, in his first season by the fact we parked the bus, he didn't play much in the Rafa season when for me, we played the best football and the best style, with a high pressing fluid back line, and with Mouriniho he has been covered by parking the bus and Matic, JT, Iva. He is awkward on the ball, ooks like a lost sheep off the ball without Terry holding his hand, he is decent, but he's not a winner or someone that will help us become a memorable team.

Bertrand never played under Jose... Pretty sure Ryan wanted out. You don't just go out and get a CB! There aren't that many to go around let alone english! He's average at best, If Jose didn't have a quota to fill he'd be gone. The guy is easily the weakest link in the back 4 and has been protected from ridicule by Matic and JT

Agree to disagree... Clearly what you're seeing in him is DEFINITELY in stark contrast to what I see. Without JT you'd trust Cahill to be your rock in the back? I wouldn't.

As for Willian, he's a 'team player'. He's like Duff back in the day or a more recent example, Pedro for Barca (before Suarez arrived). When you're winning, it's all good. When you're not winning, things suddenly become a lot darker.
I personally don't think he'll get better and that's okay, he's a useful player. I don't think Mou is expecting (much) more from him than he is providing right now. Next summer we'll see whether Mourinho wants an upgrade.
And Oscar is without a doubt the better player. 2013/2014 is over, let it go. He's enjoying a fine season.
