What on earth are you talking about?

Atheism is the denial of deities. It's a term used to describe people who don't believe in God or religion.

Yeah and I don't like being labeled Atheist. I'm not Atheist or religious. Simple.

Ok. But no-one said you were..

Atheists are people who don't believe in God & don't like religion. This is me. I am atheist. So don't "hate" me for labelling myself like that.

And why was religion created as a concept? To gain power over the masses.

You could say the same about the creation of money. Truth is, people in powerful positions exploit gullible masses in the name of religion to ensure their power never diminishes.

I'm Atheist myself.

That being said I respect other people's views. But if they try and shove it down my throat, I will do the same back..

Agree. Most people tend to respect your beliefs and their own etc but always get the odd one who argue you are wrong and going to hell yada yada yada

Yeah not on here, I mean like religious people I know have called me Atheist, but I'm not. I don't believe in God, correct but I'm still not Atheist. It's just another stupid label.

Wait.. Why?

What's wrong with being called an Atheist? It's not meant in a rude or spiteful way.

I know it's not a bad thing. It's just another useless and pointless label as I said. I am simply not religious, even though Atheist is a simplified term of non-religious. However, non-religious is simple and good enough.

Okay that's fine.

But I don't think you should take such offence to being called an Atheist. It's like being called Scottish and arguing, no you're human.

I see your point but it has being thrown in my face. Some guy up town came up to me and asked if I had time to pray to God and stuff, I said no, he replied 'Oh an Atheist are we'? The way he said it was annoying and made it sound like if I were in the wrong. He then started telling me I should find time and my way for a better life and to believe. That's just one example lol.

I actually agree with what Wilson's saying... its in human nature to categorise things. I'm tall, she's brown-eyed, they're Muslims, that person's gay, etc. etc.

In terms of addressing the question, am I religious?

I'd have to say yes. I've been blessed with the life I have, with my family and friends. I've also survived a near-death experience, which I believe was a miraculous escape. And I like the thought of some almighty power being there to guide me when times are rough. I've prayed, and I appreciate that God answers all prayers - just, sometimes he says no.

That being said, I believe the theory of evolution. You kind of have to, because refuting evolution is like saying you can live without oxygen. I just believe that science and religion are two sides of the same coin, and because science is so young we get frustrated with a desire to learn more and more. Religion teaches us we perhaps shouldn't try so hard.
