You're too young to remember Ruperts aren't you?  Came in about the same time as Budgie jackets and Skinners (that are no being made again - never liked the jeans but had several pairs of cords I loved. great for dancing. Loadsa room. Only 24" parallel but at the time were baggy  )

I remember Rupert strides beloved by Geography teachers countrywide :). Budgie jackets presumably Adam Faith wore them on the show Budgie was repeated in the mid 80's I used to watch it usually half pissed because I'd tape it and watch it when I came in from the pub. I remember lumber jackets I had one mid 70's. Good forum UJ called Do you remember.co.uk

Whisky recco. We are immense Japanese whisky fans. Our trip to Asia for 5 months (Osaka is da bomb!) locked this in even further. Unfortunately the rest of world has caught on on.

Huge quality for the price.

Not had that one.  My favourite Japanese whisky to date has been the 17 year old Hibiki.

I miss the Whisky exchange, in fact, since moving back to Canada I miss privatized alcohol sales in general.  Will have a look out for it on my next trip back to the UK.  Cheers.

Suntory stopped producing Hibiki 17 yo. I loved it. Truly superb. All Japanese whisky makers are running out of old stock due to demand. Prices have skyrocketed too. :( BTW NEVER buy from Dekanta. They are an outrageous rip-off.

Cheers

Is that what happened to it?  Shit, I knew something was up.   I was in the UK a couple of months ago and tried to find some.  Saw prices of £200 + and thought "No, that's not it, I paid £70 ish.  That must be something different (although odd that it's still Hibiki 17)".  My whisky reserves are still in good shape so I ended up bringing a bunch of wine back instead, so it worked out.  But, I'll savour all the 17 Hibiki I have left, knowing that I'll never see it again.  Balls.  Thanks for the heads up.

It will come back, but not for years. Japanese makers started increasing the production of whisky again several years ago.

We also are into Shochu. Prefer it over sake by far.

Takara Towari Honkaku Soba is a really good one made from buckwheat.

Tenshi no Yuwaku Imo Shochu is a great Imo (sweet potato) one. Aged in sherry casks.

That's something I know nothing about.  Whiskey and wine.  That's my thing.  Well, either or, not at the same time.  I'll give it a whirl.

I dont know one Saki from another but a friends dad is very into it and takes great pleasure in sitting me down and ranting on about the different flavours and processes. He has all these very old carafs and cups with these rings inside that shows the color. Doesn't make it taste any different thoo. I always end up drinking quite allot and not getting a normal alcohol buzz, just a warm fuzzy glow like E's Till I stand up and wonder why my legs aren't working properly lol

This chap is in his 90s, fit as a fiddle, and he puts it down to drinking it daily.

Kampai!

Shochu is more popular than sake on Japan itself. Its distilled, not fermented like sake. Yhe good stufd is single distilled, called honkaku shōchū. The other is multiple distilled and is more for a mix in cocktails.

I shall be armed with facts now for my next visit with him. Might be worth a prezzie to take home with me!

Sounds perfect! Can't have too many crayfish for my liking. Using any recipe!!

And are they Kottebullar? yeah? Had a couple of different types of them. Like them in the thick gravy. But even Iceland sells them and they dont taste bad. Make good raps with loads of salad and chilli sauce.

Look at those 2. I'm sorry if I sound prejudiced but to me they epitomize everything I don't want to be. I totally understand the class system and know its a natural thing for it to happen but its guys like these 2 that make people want chaos.
