I understand the frustration, Man City are signing David Silva and Yaya Tore while we are signing 30 year old scouser Benayoun. I want big name signings as much as the next person but Im glad that the club are not going to be ripped off, if we complete the signing of one big name by the end of this transfer market and Benayoun and we promote some young players into the squad then I will be happy.

Look at the benefits of Benayoun, he is experienced, he wont be one of those demanding a first team place every week, he is a creative player who is versatile, there are worse signings than Benayoun especially for the cheap price we are getting him at. At the end of the day he is going to be a squad player, nothing more, nothling less.

It's not that we are not signing "names" but that Benayoun makes no real improvement to our squad, i would rather us sign a player like Matic or when we signed Ivanovic that no-one has heard of but we will train into a quality player. We have enough experience in the squad and we need to be looking forward and building something here rather than look at a short term view.....

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool.

The 30-year-old will link up with his new team-mates at Cobham for the beginning of pre-season on Monday (July 5).

'I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful,' said the Israeli international, who has signed a three-year contract.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: 'We are happy to have this new player. Yossi has a lot of quality in midfield and can play in lots of positions. I like his behaviour on the pitch and he will do a great job for us next season.'

Benayoun spent three seasons at Liverpool having first moved to the Premier League in 2005 when he joined West Ham from Spanish club Racing Santander.

The 5ft 8in midfielder captains his national team, and is comfortable either on the wing or behind the forward line.

The first chance to see Benayoun in a Chelsea shirt could come at Crystal Palace on July 17, in our first pre-season friendly of the summer.

Ah well what's done is done, may as well give him our full support and backing. Didn't want it to happen but you can only be pleasantly surprised with low expectations and 6 million is hardly a lot of money these days in the transfer market, who knows he might the platform upon which Kakuta and people get their chance to shine.
