Juventus have reignited their interest in Branislav Ivanovic following his false start at Premier League giants Chelsea.

The 24-year-old snubbed a January switch to Turin after Lokomotiv Moscow accepted a £9m bid from the Stamford Bridge outfit instead.

However, the Serbian international has yet to make an appearance for the 2008 Champions League runners-up which has cast doubt over his future.

Now whispers in Turin suggest that Juve may make a cheeky attempt to net the versatile stopper by asking the London club for his services on loan.

The Bianconeri will be back in the Champions League next season and are known to be looking to significantly strengthen their rearguard.

Although they've already netted Olof Mellberg on a free transfer from Aston Villa, boss Claudio Ranieri is desperate for more options.

Juventus faced a defensive crisis last term when £7m summer signing Jorge Andrade was ruled out for the season after just four games, while Domenico Criscito didn't offer the security needed.

In a stroke of good fortune, Ranieri transformed left-back Giorgio Chiellini into a centre-back and Nicola Legrottaglie finally showed the kind of form which netted him a move to Juventus from Chievo in the first place.

Ivanovic would certainly add some steel to the rearguard, but it is unclear at this stage whether Chelsea are willing to release him.

Much will depend on the future of Ricardo Carvalho. He's admitted that he'd love to follow Jose Mourinho to Inter, but the appointment of Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari at Chelsea may see him remain.

I don't think he'd be brought in just to get loaned out, I think he will feature next year.

Yes i am sure he will. The story makes it seem like a hopeful attempt than anything to do with us wanted to let the player go.

Although right now we have no real idea as to which players Scolari will fancy.

Branislav Ivanovic is set to net Chelsea a £3 million profit by moving to Juventus, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Serbian defender has yet to feature in the Chelsea first team, despite having joined the club for £9 million from Lokomotiv Moskow in January.

The 21-year-old chose to move to Stamford Bridge in spite of interest from Milan, Inter, Juventus and Manchester United. However, in his first six months at the club, Ivanovic has played only for the reserve side.

Ivanovic was lacking match practice in January, Russia’s off season, and has subsequently failed to dislodge John Terry Ricardo Carvalho or Alex from the first team reckoning.

Despite his lack of football, Ivanovic is the subject of renewed interest from Claudio Ranieri’s side, who is said to be preparing to test the resolve of his former team with a £12 million bid for the Serbian.

Juventus have already completed the signings of two defenders this summer; Olof Mellberg has arrived from Aston Villa and Dario Knezevic has left relegated Livorno in order to link up with Ranieri’s side.

at the most on loan. This player mustn't be sold - he is very talented and still young, he can be a star in PL. But if is Chelsea a hindrance for his career, then he should leave us :(
