ANCELOTTI: ONLY GAMES ARE IMPORTANT

Posted on: Sun 21 Mar 2010 Following the loss to Inter Milan, some of the British media depicted Chelsea as an ageing side, set to undergo a clear-out this summer.

Carlo Ancelotti, ahead of our Barclays Premier League clash with Blackburn, quelled the stories with some frank speaking.

'I won a Champions League trophy with a player who was 39 years old,' pointed out the Italian.

'When a player is 30 years old he is in the middle of his career, he has improved the physical acts but also the experience.

'When you have a team with the average age of 28 years old, it is a very good age, it is not a problem.'

Speaking further with regard to the transfer speculation, Ancelotti continued:

'I don't speak about this, about the future, because this is not the right moment. Why do we need to speak about the future when we have 11 games coming that are very important?

'We could win the Premier League, we could win the FA Cup, why would we have to change a lot of players?

'It is normal to speak about this after a defeat but as a coach I have to stay focused on this season, and also the club has to remain focused on this season.

'We can lose energy speaking about things that are not important at this moment.'

Ancelotti went on to reveal his side's hunger for a win today. He described how the midweek loss will drive Chelsea at Ewood Park.

'The players were very disappointed, like me, like Roman, like all the fans. This is a good thing to be disappointed about the performance. It is the first step to putting new motivation into the next game.

'Today's game is very important because it comes after the Inter defeat. We need to have a good result.

'The Blackburn team is very strong, they have strong determination, are dangerous on their set pieces, so we must be focused. It will be a very important day.'

There may be a busy week ahead but Ancelotti pointed out once we have faced Aston Villa, with no more Champions League action, there will be more time to prepare for a very tightly contested end to the title race.

'After Aston Villa we have one week to prepare for Manchester United,' he added, 'we will have time to do very good training.

'We have the opportunity to do very good preparation for every game now. It is our aim to win the Premier League.'

FFS, i had a feeling it would be wishful thinking. But it's beginning to look more and more like we can forget that clear-out in summer we've been all hoping for with Ancellotti in charge <_<. I don't care if they have experience if they play like shit -.-.

to me, all he has said is that he is more worried about the remeaning games then the future summer. Which is good imo because that means his concentration is on bringing the PL title and the FA Cup to the Bridge

Exactly, he's not going to go out and say we're going to clear out in the summer, that would just decrease the confidence of some of the people who are expected to be part of it. Its better to face each problem as it comes.

I think this is typical Ancellotti. At Milan he also wasnt so urged to bring in new players nor using talents, and you see what they are doing in Milan atm. It's not the first time this season that he talks about how much he appreciates 'experience' and older players blablabla. I really hope it IS an diplomatic answer and that he wants to remain calm for the remainder of the season, but on the other hand i don't see why he would change his player-policy now he is here.

We are only one point behind if we win wednesday (IF). Than we have a big game at OT waiting and IF we win that one, we are top of the league! Problem is, i can see Chelsea drop points on the way to OT and once we go there dont' get a result. It's going to be difficult, but it is not impossible!

Keep the faith, how hard it may be!!!

Up the Chels!!!!

He said a few times before this season, he doesnt seem to realise that they get more injury prone, tired, slow, cant cope with the tempo of the game anymore and dont feel the need to prove themselves anymore because they know that how older they grow, the more games they get, because of their experience <_<.

I see chances for Joe Cole here though, he is still young according to Ancellotti so sign him up xD.
