Chelsea Interested In Sampdoria Striker Pazzini. A source indicates the Pensioners want to bring the ex-Viola to Stamford Bridge.

According to French website les-transferts.com, Chelsea have identified Sampdoria hitman Giampaolo Pazzini as a transfer target. The Italian has been on fire since joining the Blucerchiati from Fiorentina last January, hitting 15 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions and forging an excellent partnership with Antonio Cassano. The Blues are reportedly willing to pay €18 million for his signature and the move would allow them to offload seldom-used striker Andriy Shevchenko, whose salary demands take up a significant amount of space on the club's wage bill. Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti reportedly has been an admirer of the former Atalanta striker, who scored against the tactician's Milan outfit last season. Pazzini also earned his first cap for the Italian national team last year, but has not been included in Marcello Lippi's most recent string of call-ups.

Pazzini was sort of "the next big thing" until a while ago. He has a great partnership with Cassano that is making him score for fun, but I don't think he would repeat it here. He's got a bit of pace and he's great in the air, which is two things we could use for sure. But I don't really rate him as Chelsea class.

Sampdoria have moved to play down reports in both Italy and England that have suggested Giampaolo Pazzini could leave the club for either Chelsea or Manchester United in January.

The talented striker has flourished in Genoa since moving to Sampdoria in January of this year, with Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelottispacer.gif known to be an admirer.

Arsenal are also mooted as possible suitors as they look for a replacement for long-term injury victim Robin van Persie.spacer.gif

Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesenspacer.gif personally checked on him during the Genoese derby earlier this month, prompting further speculation of a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Ancelotti has since suggested such talk is premature and now Samp sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has reiterated his club's stance on the matter, with sought-after strike partner Antonio Cassanospacer.gif also set to stay.

"Pazzinispacer.gif and Cassano away in January? No way, and also for the future, they remain important elements of our project," he told Sky Italiaspacer.gif.

Pazzini's words were echoed by Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone:spacer.gif "In January we'll be spectators, we don't have specific interests, because I'm very happy with the current Samp squad."

Sampdoria have insisted striker Giampaolo Pazzini will be going nowhere during the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old Italy international, who moved to the Blucerchiati from Fiorentina in January last year, is reportedly a target for a number of clubs, including Premier League side Chelsea.spacer.gif

However, sporting director Giuseppe Marotta says that although there is interest, Pazzinispacer.gif will be staying at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

"We will not give Pazzini now - 99 per cent he will not go away," he said.

"I have already met the shareholders and there is no problem.

"Chelsea? There is an interest but a deal is something very different.

"If Pazzini can leave in June? There is so much time between now and June, it is still too early to talk about it."

Chelsea Ready To Make €22 Milllion Offer For Sampdoria Striker Giampaolo Pazzini - Report

Chelsea ponder Pazzini move...

By Salvatore Landolina

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is ready to make a €22 million swoop for Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini, but may find his offer is €78m short of expectations.

Pioneers when it comes to big spending, Chelsea will need a bulldozer to knock down Sampdoria's €100m valuation of the Italy international.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports the Blucerchiati have already rejected a substantial offer from Juventus. Two weeks ago Samp president Riccardo Garrone said he wouldn't even sell his player for €100m.

That was viewed as an unrealistic valuation, and a clear attempt at scaremongering the interested clubs.

Ancelotti will not be put off though. He is confident €22m will be the tip of the iceberg for Sampdoria and enough to defrost talks and reignite a deal.
