STRIKER Didier Drogba will be offered a new three-year contract by Chelsea.

Contrary to media speculation that the Blues were not prepared to hand him a fresh long-term deal, one will be put before the Ivory Coast international within the next week.

Drogba is seen by Chelsea as being irreplaceable and has proved his worth to the capital club yet again this season.

Despite his earlier problems with former boss Luiz Felipe Scolari, Drogba returned to his best form under the managerial tenure of interim coach Guus Hiddink.

He was at the centre of controversy following Chelsea’s Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona when he confronted Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after the final whistle.

Drogba’s foul-mouthed rant was seen by millions as he swore straight at the TV cameras.

However Chelsea have been impressed by his behaviour since the incident, for which he apologised almost immediately.

Chelsea now believe that it is better to keep Drogba than look for a replacement.

The club are convinced he can play a major part in their search for silverware under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

If Ancelotti can get Drogba playing at the top of his game again, then it is great for us to offer Didier a new deal. It is important at this time to have our most important players tied into good deals.

Give him a year extension first and see then.

Keeping him happy is needed as much as anything as we all know what a drama queen he is

Giving him a 3-year deal does that and a 1-year deal wouldn't.....I don't think he will slack off fitness wise as he probably knows his age is up there

About time these idiots at the top woke up to themselves. With the exception of Lamps and Terry. nobody else has more passion to win in the entire league. I think Drogba should be offered a life time contract to work with Chelsea when he retires. He is a great role model to the up-incoming players. If every player had his passion, we would never be short on silverware.

Anybody who thinks Drogba is not looked up to by millions has shit for brains. Did any of you read his book or watch the DVD "The Incroyable Destin"? If not, i suggest you do. I have never seen a man idolized in such a way. I feel he is very under appreciated at Chelsea and we don't deserve to have him as much as Marsielle did. If every youth player had the passion and skill of Drogba, we would never have to buy anybody. I am not just saying this because i am a huge fan of his, but because i have never seen a player worshiped like he was in France, people cried when he left. Who would cry if he leaves Chelsea? After all the important goals he has scored, so many just seem to forget how important he is.

Drogbas Cup records at Chelsea:

2005 Chelsea 3-2 Liverpool, Carling Cup Final, Drogba 1

2005 Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal, Community Shield, Drogba 2

2007 Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal, Carling Cup Final, Drogba 2

2007 Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United, FA Cup final, Drogba 1

2008 Chelsea 1-2 Tottenham, Carling Cup Final, Drogba 1

2009 Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal, FA Cup Semi Final, Drogba 1

2009 Chelsea 2-1 Everton, FA Cup Final, Drogba 1

I know scoring goals doesn't make anybody a good role model, but being able to rise to the occasion in big games shows his mental and physical strength. Something that a lot of players lack, and something that a lot of young players will need to learn, and having Drogba around to teach that, would make him an incredible role model. If my sons turn out with passion like Drogba, i will be very proud.

Had he stopped, whining and crying he would have scored more goals. And no one is questioning his talent, its just that when it comes to being a role model, he isnt a good example. End Of. Just because he is worshipped doesnt mean he is a role model.

The guy whines a bit too much and at times has loafed (in my eyes that is)

But, he also works his ass off most of the time, actually succeeds when we need him IN BIG SPOTS, and also has never done anything off-the-field that I find repulsive.

So, I don't think he is the best role model but I am not sure why someone would think he is anywhere near terrible

He isn't the best but he is so far from the worst
