Depends what your use is?

Yamaha - always a great sound

Onkyo - feature laden, good-ish sound

Denon - hmm bit muddy for me...

At the min in my price range it's Yahama vs Onkyo - I have 2 of their £1000 receivers and not much to choose, just like the Yamaha slightly better..

Hooked up to an Acoustic Energy AElite 7.1 system with dual silver cables (cost 600 for them alone)

Went AV mad with a bonus - missus annoyed, but luckily it's so loud I can't hear her ;)

If you give me some specs - will dig out my research including cheapest price

I dont know how you are on money (it does not seem a problem though, lol), but this one is the "best" you can have.

I am very pleased with them. They are extremely good and they are noise cancelling...

Great to use on the train as nobody keeps looking at you with a strange face only because you are wearing a giant headphone!

It is. But I'm gonna use it at home only. It's not like I'm gonna go on the streets like I'm some famous football player. And I wouldn't like to walk by with some giant headphone screaming "Please rob me!" either.
