Chelsea had a couple of representatives in Portugalโ€™s 3-1 win against Poland on Saturday.

Pedro Netoย and Renato Veiga both started the Nations League match, with the latter making his debut for Portugal.

Neto is still finding his feet atย Chelsea, playing deputy to Noni Madueke at this moment in time. However, the winger had a good game for his country last night.

When club football returns,ย Neto will be hoping for more opportunitiesย underย Enzo Maresca.

Pedro Netoโ€™s performance against Poland

Neto could not get his name on the scoresheet in Portugalโ€™s victory over Poland, but he still managed to put in a positive performance.

According to Squawka, the 24-year-old completed 100% of his four take-ons and won more duels (seven) than any other player on the pitch.

It is an encouraging sign for Maresca, though you would expect theย Chelsea managerย to stick with Madueke when the Blues travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool after the international break.

Madueke has started all but one of Chelseaโ€™s seven Premier League games this season, scoring last time out against Nottingham Forest.

Madueke also registered 20 touchesย in Forestโ€™s penalty area that day, showing how much of a threat he was in the 1-1 draw.

Pedro Netoโ€™s stats

Following his appearance against Poland, Neto now has 13 caps and one goal for Portugal.

He will be hoping to add to his one goal when his country take on Scotland on Tuesday in their next Nations League match.

For Chelsea, Neto has made 10 appearances and scored two goals so far, with his second strike coming against Gent in the Conference League earlier this month.

Chelsea fans were impressed with Netoโ€™s displayย in the 4-2 win against Gent, but it was not enough for him to keep his place in the team for the draw with Forest afterwards.

I would still sell him if a big offer came in.ย

ย

how big?

we have to be talking ยฃ75-80m or so

he is a fucking monster defensively for a winger

can run all day, and has a winner's vibe

I warned he would not be a huge scoring threat, BUT he, like CuCu, has surprised me a lot with all the other facets to their games

Yes 100 million or more.ย

Because I doubt anyone will offer that, I'm happy with him as I always said.ย

Pedro Neto is a perfect wingback

Such a frustrating player to watch

My unpopular opinion maybe? I believe that Pedro Neto would be a VERY good wingback.

I was pleased when we signed Neto. Iโ€™ve always liked him for his traits, attitude, intensity, and the way he never gives up. But at Chelsea, heโ€™s been very frustrating. I donโ€™t think heโ€™s a top winger, but I do think heโ€™s a very useful player and good to have.

Neto as a winger is very frustrating because he will do something very good, get near the box, and then waste the chance himself by either hitting a wild shot, making the wrong pass, hitting it right into a defender, or over-hitting a cross. Of course he is also capable of scoring or creating something from nothing, but largely, he just breaks down our own attacks by himself sometimes. Heโ€™s never going to be a top level winger.

But I DO think he can be a top level wingback. For me, he looks like he would be a class left wingback. He has the energy to get up and down, the pace for counters and retreating. He is decent defensively, and is a strong and physical player, he can run with the ball, and he can contribute both in defence and attack.

I guess with Liam Rosenior coming in and his adaptation on using a back three at times, perhaps there is going to be more moments where Neto actually might get deployed as a wingback?

I honestly think it would be a very smart move to develop Neto as a wingback rather than a winger. For me, the wingers we have are very weak right now and itโ€™s an area we badly need to improve after spending ยฃ100m on it in the summer. Sigh.
