Yeah it's hard to see either one of these teams beating France, but hey it's knockout...

Good news for Portugal is that they did play better: all the opportunities were theirs.
Bad news for Portugal is that they did not score when Slovenia were so poor in the first half;

So, even if Slovenia can improve only marginally for the second half, things could become more interesting. Some of their mids had a pretty bad showing: Stojanovic was particularly poor on the ball and he's a serve A player eh.

you Greeks and your regional ancient hatreds, roflmaooooooooo

It's not ancient.
Ancient is Persians, Turks, Avars.
It's from the beginning of the 20th century.
These blokes were Bulgarian and in their territory the population was half Serbian, half Bulgarians.
Bulgaria made a bid to grab Greek territory, the territory of so called North Macedonia and Romanian territory.
They had three armies but were defeated in all three fronts.
Then tried again in WWI.
The British who are rcognizing them now (!) fought against them and Macedonia is full of cemeteries of British soldiers and Greek solldiers of WWI.
The French were also involved but the French were occupied further north, against the Austrians.
Then again in WWII the Bulgarians allied themselves with the axis. Goebbels wrote in his diary "now it's the time for the historical aspirations of Bulgaria to be fulfilled".
During German occupation a sham Macedonian state was created. They had a nazi president who managed to flee to South America via the Vatican trail (never heard of again).
Then after Germany was defeated it was Tito's turn.
Jugoslavia became communist but also Bulgaria became communist.
But Tito did n't like Bulgaria. He said "it's good that they are communist now, but they are a defeated country - we should rule them from Belgrade".
Moscow was n't happy. Theey did n't like Belgrade to have that much power.
In response Tito purged the pro-Bulgarian elements in North Macedonia territory but he also created a new myth:
The communist Macedonia that should also incorporate northern Greece and the new ethnicity.
So the region was called "socialist republic of Macedonia" - an internal Jugoslav republic.
Tito failed in Greece - his guerillas in the Greek mountains were defeated in 1949,
Strangely the defeat of the guerilla army came after Tito's rift with Moscow. The Greek communists were fools and instead of sidin with Tito who was helping them, they sided with Mosow who wanted to assassinate Tito !
So Tito stopped helping them but he kept his Macedonian myth alive for internal reasons.
This is what we have now, after the indepndence of 1990.
But their ideology is no longer communist. It's much closer to the 1943 nazi Macedonia version plus their hatred against the new Bulgarians.
Bulgaria even though they are the ones who started it, after the war progressively lost interest. In 1962 Krutstchev convinced them to ask for a peace accord with Greece and Greece did n't mind signing it.

France will trash this Portugal team if we somehow manage to squeeze trough to the next round.

In four games, France scored two own goals and a pen. I firmly doubt they will “trash” anyone in this tournament.

yeah in terms of goal scoring agreed, on the other hand that's how they are setup and could dominate a match comfortably and even score more goals if they manage to score early.

Have to consider the opposition plays with a fairly low block against them; for good reason as they have mbappe for counters.

Pepe did just enough pulling him back. put him off balance

Sure he did and yet he's a non-elite 41yo defender, so you have to expect a bit more from a aspiring elite striker.

Fair point. On the other hand, Today Belgium had a big chance at 0-0 after the 80th minute, I don’t feel they kept the game in their hands so much.

What’s up with Frankfurt field? Players kicking off kilos of soil.

Yeah I pretty much knew Belgium would get a chance or two as they have excellent attacking players; it's difficult to contain excellent players at this level. Still, they looked pretty comfortable in midfield barring that last 10min of Belgium pressure.
