I honestly have no clue what happen with Giroud. But Giroud as backup st is perfectly fine certainly for this season. But like you said he is behind michy yet Giroud started against West Ham.

It was just one match. How many times has Batshuayi been preferred over Giroud this season?

My point is michy is our 2nd choice striker that is obvious. But if you are looking for veteran striker to play 3rd striker Giroud is more than adequate, there isn't many targetman that is better at linkup play and header than giroud.

But what's the point when Giroud is barely used at all?

By traditional DM I meant someone who is solely focused on breaking up the play. I don't see gubdogan/rodri as traditional DMs. If they are then they can hold a candle to the makeleles and essiens of the world. Jorginho is good enough. Kova as a back up is more than good enough.

You just answered what we need from a dm. A player who can protect our backline.

If Pep want his dm to have little ability to break up player he won't sign Rodri to replace Fernandinho. Gundogan is perfectly fine. The problem with gundo is that physically he is not strong enough to play as holder.

Kovacic cannot play as holder. Sarri tried to teach him last season but it will take years, let's just say he can't play sole dm. Other than jorgi only Kante can play DM but what is the point of playing one of the most dynamic midfielder in the world at his prime as dm.

The real problem is not Lampard not trusting Giroud. The problem is Lamp not trusting michy to start game.

You're just going around in circles. The situation is largely the same.

If we sell Batshuayi and get what Lampard wants, the replacement will likely start games, come on Abraham as sub etc with Giroud remaining as 3rd choice. If we sell Giroud and get what Lampard wants, that replacement will likely be 2nd choice - moving ahead of Batshuayi - and be trusted to start games, come out to make a difference etc.

Even if we buy a good striker, he or Tammy will get worse eventually after a season or so. Just like Jesus from City got worse when Aguero became their main striker again. If you do not play enough, you will get worse. At top clubs like Real, City, Barcelona etc. you do not rotate your main striker as much. So Jovic got worse, Jesus got worse and at Chelsea, Michy got worse.

I don't know about signing a 19 year old striker. When we have Tammy.

so you are saying we can only roll with one decent striker?

and there are zero reasons the two of them could not play together as well

if we sold Bats and Giroud

there is no reason that we cannot go froward with two potentially great strikers

if we do not sell Bats (Giroud is gone)

we are always going to have shit when Tammy doesnt play

it really is as simple as that

and dog help us if Tammy regresses

also dog help us if Manure gets Håland and he goes all global superstar level

16.8m quid makes this a no brainer

I do not want to be sitting here a year from now with Tammy injured (or drop in form) and we have fuckall at CF (which is pretty much where we at at now, as Giroud and Bats have been absolute pants for the most part and I am sick and tired of rolling dice on them hoping they have their one in ten good games on the day they have to play)

We are not talking about signing a 25+ player backup, we are talking about signing an etoo type. A 33+ year old downhill striker who is willing to play for a one year contract.

If you play him as 2nd choice, michy won't be happy. We are pretty much left with Tammy and an old striker. If Tammy is injured for just one month, we are pretty much screwed.

We need two striker, but not one 19 and one 22. Youngster need game time to develop.

I do not believe this to be the case, and Håland is so cheap we could also bring in a pure ageing vet for emergency cover.

If we now have the chance to buy him for peanuts, it is madness to not try and block Manure.

Håland is a beast physically and I am more than willing to go through growing pains to reap his type of talent.

You're confusing this with Tomo's own suggestion. The main point here is getting a striker that Lampard can trust to step in for Abraham when needed - be it through rotation or providing competition for the main spot.

All this talks about which striker we should buy in January. Problem is our main target and other big names will not be available this time. So, got the feeling we will made another loan with option to buy signing like Higuain, in Jovic or Zaha to replace Giroud.

Problem with a quality second striker is that it could lead to squad problems down the line. Arsenal have Laca and Auba, and constantly play Auba out of position. City have Jesus and Aguero and neither wants to be on the bench.

Juggling between 2 or even 3 strikers is always a tricky business but we don't want to have a huge difference in quality between them, do we? If people are fine with having competition for places in other areas of the squad, then a little competition upfront wouldn't be the worst thing.
