Exclusive: Manchester City step up efforts to beat Liverpool to exciting €60m transfer

Manchester City are expected to push for the transfer of Atalanta midfielder Ederson as they seek a replacement for the injured Rodri in the middle of the park, CaughtOffside understands.

It’s been a surprisingly difficult season for Man City so far, with Pep Guardiola’s side on an awful run of form since their influential Spanish midfielder Rodri picked up a season-ending injury.

The Ballon d’Or winner has shown just how important he is to this City side, and while it won’t be easy to replace him, it seems Ederson is increasingly emerging as the club’s first choice.

Ruben Amorim picks out TWO Man United players he wants out of the club!

Sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that City are now expected to step up their efforts to win the race for Ederson as they anticipate interest from rivals Liverpool as well.

The Brazil international’s asking price would be around €60m, and sources also state that the player is said to be flattered by interest from the Etihad Stadium.

Can Manchester City finally sign their Rodri replacement?

MCFC fans will be eager to see the Rodri issue addressed in January, with Ederson looking like he could have a hugely important role to play if he ends up joining.

Still, CaughtOffside understands that Atalanta are eager not to sell the player this January, especially after losing Teun Koopmeiners in the summer, and with growing interest in Ademola Lookman.

This could make things tricky for City, but this is also clearly an emergency for Guardiola’s side after seeing their freefall during Rodri’s absence.

Some City fans will perhaps feel they’re not quite out of the title race yet, and a strong second half to the season could mean there’s still plenty to play for.

However, there seems little prospect of that kind of recovery unless the midfield is sorted out with an ambitious signing like this.

Liverpool could also do well to land a top midfield talent like Ederson, though, with Arne Slot’s side notably missing out on Martin Zubimendi in the summer.

Before we signed Enzo and Caicedo I like this player a lot. He tackles and scores and has a very good pass on him

Oh and how Alvarez is so much better and how much we need him.

Alvarez has 12 goals, 2 assists in his last 1000 or so minutes played, including a wonderstrike tonight in the CL (and as I type this he just hit the post)

How much you wanna bet that we’ll be heavily linked with Rashford soon enough? Briefing went out from a few journalists this morning that United will listen to offers for him and are willing to sell him.

He is ass though.

I think our scouting team has shown they know what they are doing. For all this talk about "scattergun approach" from all the TV pundits, it certainly didn't seem like it to me. We keep buying players of the same type of quality and attributes.

Rashford in my eyes doesn't fit that at all.

I think we need a 4th CDM after Caicedo, Lavia and Enzo. Bringing back Andrey Santos from his loan isn't a bad idea at all imo.

Can let KDH and Carney go - They're okay/good but we can manage without them,

I think we missed out big time should have gone for Mamardashvili and Julian Alvarez.

I said so ages ago they didn’t listen though.

I'm okay with missing Alvarez. I have doubts he would be able to handle the lone striker role. Jackson is doing a lot more than his goal tally for the team and he is a bigger presence up front than Alvarez.

Keeper however is a different story. Would have liked a serious keeper

I don’t care for him either but I could at least envision him looking better after leaving United. Needs a change of scenery and that pressure/spotlight of being that hyped up future superstar for his boyhood club lifted off him.

That’s why I think journalists will link him with us. They’ll say he could be just like Sancho.

Rashford is a clown. A couple of weeks ago he attended a Knicks game in MSG with a couple of bodyguards. Literally nobody knows who the fuck he is in NYC. Biggest stars on planet are regulars there without that.

We will need it. We can't afford a drop off next season like Newcastle & Villa.

6 players for 3 positions. Mudryk will most likely leave and Paez is nowhere near ready. He lost starting spot in Ecuadorian team. He will be on loan for probably many years and it's questionable if he'll ever be good enough for Chelsea.

Yes he was doing good but he went the Ronaldinho route, partying and what not.

If Paez sharpens up he can probably pick up. But if not then yes he will be lost in loans and what not.
