Heineken and The Shoe Surgeon Fill the ‘Heinekicks’ With Real Beer

Beer brewers Heineken have commissioned The Shoe Surgeon to produce a highly limited run of the custom ‘Heinekicks’ sneaker – which has lager in the sole! Given the brief of ‘Walking On Beer’, TSS took things literally and filled these shoes with Heineken Silver, the latest brew from the red star brand.

Inspired by the idiosyncratic green, red and silver of Heineken’s latest drop, TSS recreates these colours on this hi-tech looking sneaker. The green overlays take on a lenticular effect, shining against an equally bright silver upper. Red hardware including laces and lining add the prerequisite Heineken pop without veering into Christmas territory. Built into the tongue is a removable bottle opener to pop off caps and lids at a moment’s notice.

Of course, the pièce de résistance of the ‘Heinekicks’ is the golden beer swishing around in the translucent midsole. According to the brand, the measure of Heineken Silver has been carefully inserted using a ‘specialised surgical injection method’ to ensure not a single drop spills out. They also promise a unique on-foot experience as the weight of the sole shifts from back to front and vice versa.

Of the 32 examples of the ‘Heinekicks’ reportedly made, seven will be available to acquire in Singapore later this year. In the meantime, pairs will be on display from August 11 at the Limited Edition Vault at 313@Somerset, which forms part of Project Future organised by Culture Cartel x 2MR Labs.

The Nike Blue Ribbon SB Arrives in ‘Grinch’ Green

Alongside the SB Dunk, Nike’s Skateboarding sub-line have been focusing plenty on their Blue Ribbon SB, aka BRSB, silhouette lately. It first arrived in April, and the name derives from Team Swoosh’s original name: Blue Ribbon Sports. So far, simplistic makeups have adorned the BRSB, all inspired by the classic Cortez.

Next up is a ‘Grinch’ green joint, and official imagery has surfaced hinting they’ll be touching down soon. Skate-ready, the upper on these has been built using a mix of suede, synthetic fabric and leather. The colourway exudes Christmas vibes with tonal green hues, red Swoosh and white midsole.

There’s no release date yet, but we suspect they’ll be releasing at select SB stockists over the coming months.

Hello Kitty x adidas Superstar

Iconic Sanrio character Hello Kitty is no stranger to the sneakersphere, having adorned plenty of models across a slew of brands. The most iconic is the Hello Kitty x Nike Air Presto from 2004, designed by Steven Smith to help celebrate Sanrio’s 30th anniversary. It was given a retro release this year, with activations planted in retailers all over the globe for the highly-anticipated drop. Now, adidas have joined the feline frenzy, giving their Superstar a full Hello Kitty makeover.

The whole upper has been composed using mostly white leather, with Three Stripes, side perforations and iconic shell toe blending into the base. Specialised Hello Kitty details come through on the rear lateral through a printed graphic, and the heel panel and outsole have also been given the polka dot treatment alongside custom laces with charms. The highlight of the collaboration is the swing tag and box, which see Hello Kitty rocking a head-to-toe Three Stripes tracksuit!

Tom Sachs and Nike may have brilliantly deemed their NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe ‘boring’ in a memorable print ad that looks like it belongs in the pages of Soled Out, but Sachs’ rabid fans seem to think it’s anything but boring: its first colourway flew out of his webstore with frightening speed and is now flipping for several hundred dollars, even though the artist indicated that it would be ‘restocked’ and ‘perennial.’ Now, Sachs and Nike are ready to run it back with a second General Purpose Shoe colourway, namely a bright style that’s dubbed ‘Dark Sulfur.’

A borderline McDonald’s type beat, the ‘Dark Sulfur’ may be murky in name, but it’s bright in its colour with a bold yellow mesh upper that’s cut by white Swooshes, off-white tongue tags and gigantic orange heel and tongue tabs. Special branding is applied tastefully across the heels and insoles, while the inside of the tongue tag offers a special message. Down below, Killshot-style midsoles work with classic waffle outsoles to round off the look.
