i really really really dont understand what that board is doing most of the time

bloody idiots

The ex-England boss and captain's second reign with the Magpies came to an end after his hopes for three or four major signings failed to materialise.

The transfer window closed at midnight on Monday.

Sky sources had said earlier that the 57-year-old missed a training session because he was locked in talks with club owner Mike Ashley.

Ive seen this on Setanta news. I dont think its been confirmed, but tbh hes better out of there anyway. They dont ever give their managers a chance or money to spend. Looks like dennis is gonna take over the reigns and he wont last long either. The way newcastle treat their managers and their fans is a disgrace for such a well supported passionate team. I hope they go down.

How much did Owen cost them?

Newcastle are a joke of a club if you ask me. Always thinking they are bigger than they are and are constantly screwing themselves.

I must admit it was funny as fuck ! At least he wasnt crying this time. Geordie fans, as well as most, deserve better club management.

The fans can take their shame of the blame for the state of their club if you ask me....

Lol Hows that ? The club have now released a statement that Keegan remains as manager. Its a PR disaster -their season is now fucked. The board have interfered too much -and Keegan for all his faults has not been given a free rein. Keegan is a delicate little flower at the best of times, and the Barton saga showed how weak he can be.

Their fans expect to much from them and then complain and protest when things don't go their way, this in itself heaps pressure on the manager and the board.

But like i said, Newcastle FC in general is a bloody Joke....

One of the few clubs where the fans have stuck with the team through thin and thin. Half the so called Chels fans would drop their allegiance like a hat if the form was anything like the Tynesiders. Loads of geordies refused to renew their season tickets after Bartons reinstatement. They get my respect for that.

To me they have passion - ok they're generally fat shirtless beer monsters - but there can never be enough pressure on the board and manager from the fans in any club, they deserve all the stick if not performing...

i agree with that really

i have a few newcastle fans and it's amazing that after everything that they are put through by their club - they are there season after season expecting (and almost never getting) a different result but again and again they get done over by a board that can't leave well enough alone

all teams fans have expectations - it's a natural part of a club - even we have it and for the talent that is at Newcastle they should be a way better team adn club than they actually are

i think the board should shut up, leave the manager alone and dump Joey Barton - would they really risk losing fans rather than one idiotic footballer

He's gone:BBC Sport

Kevin Keegan has resigned as manager of Newcastle United after just eight months in charge.

The announcement follows lengthy talks between the 57-year-old and the board.

"I've been working desperately hard to find a way forward with the directors, but sadly that has not proved possible," Keegan said in a statement.

"It's my opinion that a manager must have the right to manage and that clubs should not impose upon any manager any player that he does not want."

Keegan's resignation comes after three days of intense speculation about his future.

The former England boss made clear his feelings about the club's summer transfer activity at a meeting with the board on Monday, the day the summer transfer window closed. o.gif

Following those talks, he was again summoned by the hierarchy on Tuesday as strong rumours of his imminent exit surfaced.

Amid protests by angry fans outside St James' Park, the club was forced to deny it had sacked him, while the League Managers' Association insisted he had not resigned and that talks would continue.

However, in a statement released by the LMA late on Thursday, Keegan announced his departure from the club for a second time.

He added: "It remains my fervent wish to see Newcastle United do well in the future and I feel incredibly sorry for the players, staff and most importantly the supporters.

"I have been left with no choice other than to leave."

The LMA statement read: "The letter which Kevin received today from managing director Derek Llambias has failed to resolve the matters in issue between him and the club and accordingly he feels he has no alternative other than to resign." o.gif

Keegan returned for a second spell as manager in January, to the delight of an adoring faithful on Tyneside.

He led the Magpies to safety last season and the club had made a solid start to this season - but Keegan had become increasingly unhappy with the club's management structure.

Shortly after appointing Keegan, chairman Mike Ashley brought in Dennis Wise as a "football-related" executive director while Tony Jimenez was appointed vice-president of player recruitment.

Keegan's departure comes only a day after Alan Curbishley quit his position at West Ham over his lack of control over transfer policy at Upton Park.

At what turned out to be Keegan's last game in charge at Arsenal on Saturday, Ashley stood with the fans wearing a 'King Kev' shirt.

But many supporters are now directing their anger at the chairman following the departure of a man who has been idolised on Tyneside since he led them to promotion to the top flight as a player in 1982.

Keegan took over as manager for the first time in 1992, once again leading them back to the top flight before narrowly missing out on the title in 1995.

Less than two years later, Keegan stunned the sport by resigning, saying he had taken the club as far as he could. His return in January this year was hailed by the Newcastle fans as the "return of the Messiah", but just eight months later, he handed in his resignation for a second time.
