I was looking forward to signing Ross way back when we were first linked with him. So much ability and talent to transition from middle of the park to the final third but always struck me as a 'head down' player. He most definitely has had good games with us, average games and very poor games so there ability is there, the attitude was always the question with him in my eyes. When he started this season playing like he did toward October and that little spell beyond I thought he's finally got it down but then I saw a photo of him out and about with Dele Ali at 4-5am in the morning... Now since then, its gone down hill, it may well be coincidence but at the start of the season and a few months after he was lean, looked like he could play 180 minutes and beyond. I was talking to a friend who is a Liverpool supporter and he said that Ross was very well known around the club circuit, drinks, women, you name it... Even got a black eye for thinking he could mess around with someone's woman.

I hope the above isn't why it has gone down hill for him, he really doesn't need to be getting dragged into that. I really hope he turns it around for us.

17 times Kovacic has been subbed for Barkley

this alone is shocking. Subs are one of the few ways a manage rcan influence a running game. Picking substitutes in a predictable way, gives the opposition manager to opportunity to prepare no only for the probable starting line-up but also of how the manager will influence the game later on. Add to that same tatics, same formation, same inability to cross or shoot and everyone knows how to stop us.

Chelsea fans accuse Ross Barkley of playing too many backwards passes vs Tottenham

Another player i feel that could play in the "jorgy"role , just like Kante i feel like Ross is not used to playing on the side of a midfield 3 , under Sarri hopefully he will keep improving and stay fit!

One year after his arrival at Chelsea, are we any closer to knowing what Ross Barkley will become?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/01/30/one-year-arrival-chelsea-closer-knowing-ross-barkley-will-become/

October looked like the start of something good, but niggling injuries etc and he went backwards again(dosn't look as fit or mobile as he was)

Yesterday was his best game in a long, long while. There looked to be a lot of frustration and anger in his play, it made him quite aggressive on the ball. Far more attacking passes, much like what we saw earlier in the season. He can still be a good option for us.

The stats that prove Barclay's importance

It is just over a year since Ross Barkley made his Premier League debut for Chelsea in a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

Barkley was easing his way back to fitness after six months out through injury and, having suffered a slight setback, he had to wait until May for his next League start against Newcastle United, which ended in another 3-0 defeat.

The critics were already preparing themselves to write off Barkley’s Chelsea career, but, since regaining full fitness over the pre-season, he has undoubtedly been one of the success stories of this campaign to date.

Barkley ran the game against Huddersfield Town after being restored to Maurizio Sarri’s starting line-up and it was the 10th Premier League match Chelsea have won in which the midfielder has started since his debut on January 31, 2018.

In fact, Chelsea’s League win percentage when Barkley starts stands at an impressive 70 per cent, in comparison to just 48.3 per cent when he is left out. The Blues average 2.2 goals a game with him in the team and 1.4 goals when he is watching from the substitutes’ bench.

Former head coach Antonio Conte described Barkley as a “complete player”after Chelsea had signed him for just £15 million from Everton and the statistics would seem to back that view.

Other than being more dangerous in an attacking sense with Barkley in the team, Chelsea are also better at the back. They have conceded an average of 0.9 goals in the League games in which he has started and 1.2 in those he has not.

Perhaps most impressively, Barkley has also covered more ground in the games he has started than any of his team-mates – including N’Golo Kante.

He has clocked up an average of 12.44 kilometres per 90 minutes, in comparison to Jorginho’s 12.01 and Kante’s 11.87. Mateo Kovacic, who has started in front of Barkley on a number of occasions is not in the top five according to the statistics provided to us by Opta.

Barkley provided an assist for Eden Hazard’s second goal against Huddersfield, which was his fourth of the season and puts him only behind the Belgian in that particular category for the season.

Whether or not he is benefitting from his assists, Hazard performs better with Barkley in the team behind him. In the six Premier League matches the pair have started, Chelsea’s star man has scored three times, averaging 0.5 goals a game. Without Barkley, Hazard’s average drops to 0.48.

No wonder those above Sarri at Chelsea consider Barkley to be a genuine bargain.

I think if he was to start scoring/assisting then we can really say he is important and a true bargain. He has got plenty to offer but fitness is a big issue in his career so far.

Hes looked better here so perhaps his move and how we prepare players helps too but I want to see more, I want to see the same sort of dynamic, aggressive performances he was churning out under Martinez in his breakthrough and at times under Koeman after a tough start. I think hes more an 8 than a pure 10, you can see his research if youll call it that on Sarri's Napoli and Maurizio's coaching was helping him understand when to be more creative, when to be more conservative, how to always be open to receive the ball. Hes more involved in the middle third of the pitch than he was at Everton. When we struggled, he looked a bit out of sorts but he has shown a lot of promise this season in patches.

This guy is painfully average, he offers jack shit on either end ever since his purple patch in October or whenever. Are RLC and Kovacic injured or why are they not playing ahead of him?

RLC has been injured but the problem for me with Kovacic is I am not really sure what he actually does. Yeah, hes decent on the ball, but he doesn't offer goals, he does the odd little flashy thing but that's it.

Barkley is just one of those little niggling headaches that doesn't get any better and is annoying as fuck.
