Would you leave your current job for another one for half the salary?

The problem is that no one gets fired for buying a player like Drinkwater.
That is the issue here.
The same person gets stupid money for someone with a year left on their contract, so they get a pass.

That's because the persons who I believe have the final say on football decisions can't be fired.

Iv'e never seen any evidence that Marina handles anything other than the financial aspect of player recruitment. Until I do, I just can't buy the idea that she selects the targets. That notion makes zero sense to me.

Looking back on this thread while he did play people seemed quite happy with him for the first six months, so saying he's been shit was stretching the truth a bit, waste of a signing absolutely but he did allright with his minutes for a while.

He doesn't fit the system now and should either be 4th choice for cup games or shipped out but on paper he was a decent fit in Conte's 343, I was quite happy with the signing at the time for that reason (not so much the price and wage but I tried to ignore that) as I personally felt he was better than post 2014 Matic.

We are funding his restaurant and getting nothing in return.

Completely agree he's been a disaster but only in hindsight.

At the time i can completely see why the club moved for him. They viewed Bakayoko as the long term option and wanted to give him time to bed in (hence why I think initially they wanted to retain Matic). When Matic wanted to leave they looked at a player that was seen as a solid all rounder, dependable and with Premier League (and Premier League winning) experience. He also had experience playing alongside Kante and the cherry on the top was homegrown status. It seemed at the time a sensible, if unspectacular buy, but obviously now it's been a nightmare.

I have to say though I'm far more disappointed in Bakayoko, who I was hoping for big things from for years to come.

Emenalo left & we never brought in a direct replacement, so I've put two & two together. If she isn't to blame/praise for our business in the market, who is?

I think Roman is completely hands off in that regard unless he truly wants someone (Torres springs to mind).

Just checking, what does two and two make?

^^Kidding couldn't resist.

It seems to me we are asked to believe some very silly things at times. Like Callum would leave the club over a shirt number or that Marina makes the football decisions about which players to sign.

For what possible reason would Roman reject the footballing advice of his managers, coaches and technical staff preferring to allow a person with zero experience or knowledge to make those decisions instead? The very idea is utterly, utterly stupid.

Now, listening to the advice of all those people and then making the decision yourself, that's something I can understand. I understand it because if I had Roman's money I would absolutely 100-percent have tried to buy Chelsea. If I had succeeded I would absolutely 100-percent have made all of the transfer decisions myself. I would have taken lots of advice, watched lots of games anf given people plenty of opportunity to persuade me one way or the other. In the end however, the buck would have stopped with me.

People reading that can immediately see the potential for disaster. Putting those decisions in the hand of an amateur is an obvious risk. Once you've made up your mind to take that risk however, why on Earth give it away to someone with even less knowledge of the game than yourself? By all means give away the boring responsibilities. Pay someone else to manage the budget and the compliance with FFP regulations. Have someone tell you what can be afforded and have them negotiate the deals for sure but give away the fun part? No chance.

Someone advised the signing of Danny, but it will take incontravertable evidence to convince me that Marina was that person.

I think it was Emenalo (so many forget he was still the TD when we bought DD) and Roman's son, and they assumed that Donkeywater would replicate success of linking back up with Kante.

Emenalo was still here as TD when we bought Donkeywater (he left in November 2017, we bought DD at the end of the summer 2017 window)

As I previously stated, who made the decision to sign players or deal with transfers (something we've seemingly had issue with for a few windows)?

Downplaying someone's involvement is all good and well, but you don't have a straight answer that debunks my theory.

I thought we signed DD during the Winter window for some reason.
