N'Golo Kante

Kante will never shine in a possession-based team. Leicester and pre-Sarri Chelsea played a completely different game. Same with France.

I do think he will get better though. This is a significant change for him and he hasn't been terrible. He'll be better next season.

Not going to lie, posts like this are slightly embarrassing. People wanted a change in style from Conte. We got one with Sarri. It's not perfect but if he wants to build a team in his image he needs to do it, no point half arsing it. Did Pep have a plan B? Did Klopp? No they play there way and that's it. Conte had a plan B, lump it long to Giroud/Morata but apparently that was outdated and we should be playing attacking football, now we have a manager who's trying to do that and now he's not flexible enough.. some of you guys never cease to amaze me. It's a process. Takes time. Few players need replaced. Give the guy a chance. Swear some folk just cause a stir because they've fuck all else to do.

Luiz and Willian cannot be in plan A, B, C, D,....  they are breathtakingly shit

idk if you are serious or not but pep uses different lineups and formations every few games, especially last season and the season before. klopp has changed his style this season from the tactics he had last season. it's pretty obvious.

But the way of playing is the same, 433, 4141, 352, 4231, the way of playing doesn't change, there's no compromise in his principles (since Barcelona he has been stubborn with this possession based philosophy, insistent that his teams will play any other way). Same with Jurgen Klopp who's teams have always played a high intensity high pressure football where they press and are so fast in transitions (originates from his time at Mainz). The formation doesnt mean anything in particular because its the style thats important. They don't change their philosophy because they believe that is the right way for their teams to play.

it kinda sucks that our manager is not flexible at all. no plan b

Yeah its happened to other managers here too ...and we all know how that pans out ! Lets hope either we bring in suitable improvements or the ex banker becomes more flexible to reap the rewards!

We expect too much because of our results in last two months... These are still our first few months of attacking/possession football after years of defending and counter attacking. Guardiola hardly managed to reach TOP 4 in his first season with City and with probably better team than ours. We played a great game against Liverpool and Arsenal, had a great run without defeat and after first loss there is already panic among our fans... Calm the f*ck down please!

Sarri has a philosophy, it is the right thing to stick with it! You can't learn attacking football in three months, we will need more than that, maybe even more than one season and few new players (right ones).

Kante is a great player but I am afraid that he is a great player in certain system. System that was played under Ranieri, Conte and in system that is played in France - counter attacking. His passing under pressure is not good, so we would suffer with him as defensive midfielder if we want to play the ball out of the defence.

Lol, like changing to 4-2-3-1 would magically make Kante world beater.

People are acting like Kante is second coming of Frank Rijkaard. Being it in 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 Kante is just not so important anymore to us. Even in 4-2-3-1 Kante would hold his side (right), and Jorginho his side (left). Only thing that was different before was that Kante had Matić or Drinkwater by his side, and they held their field sides decently... Jorginho can't do that, and there would STILL be defensive lapses. Not to mention that in Contes era Kante had 3 defenders behind him.

In this setup/style Kante can't do it all, like most of you want... you can use whichever formation you want. Kante is everywhere, you say? It's much easier to be "everywhere" when you have so many defensive players in your team who could help you out and cover some ground. Stop f**king overrating him that much, he IS NOT our problem.

I am baffled that people are still talking about Kante, when it's clear that our main problems are out-of-form Kovačić and shit RW and CF, of course with average LB and LCB.

Gone are the days when we would win 1-0 on our bad days. Now it should be 3-2, with this setup.

N'Golo Kante midfield role leaves Chelsea exposed, says Steve Sidwell

No praise for him yesterday then? Showed exactly what he can offer in that role in the second half, excellent second half performance. If he plays like this more often in the same role it will be justified moving him in my eyes. This is what Sarri wants from him, he was the right distance away with the ball and without the ball.

Roflmaooo on multiple levels....... (pro tip, Kante isn't even being played at DMF now)

'He's as good as N'Golo Kante... there's no argument about it' - pundit makes bold claim

CHELSEA midfielder N’Golo Kante has competition to be the best defensive midfielder in the league.

https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1064256/Chelsea-news-Kante-Fernandinho-injury-Manchester-City

That is according to former Premier League winger Michael Gray, who believes Manchester City’s Fernandinho is just as good as the Frenchman.

Kante was integral to Leicester’s incredible 2015/16 title-winning campaign, reshaping the expectancies of a holding midfielder with his phenomenal engine and precise timing in tackles and interceptions.

His superb year earned him a summer switch to Chelsea, where the deceptive destroyer claimed his second league title in consecutive seasons.

“Look, [Fernandinho is] one of the best,” Gray told talkSPORT.

“I put him alongside Kante. I know Kante’s had a lot of plaudits over the last couple of seasons - and rightly so, he’s a phenomenal player in that position.

“Fernandinho is as good as him. That’s how highly I rate him. He is, there’s no argument about it.”

The pundit then went on to critique City’s deep squad, which he believes is only falling short in the defensive midfield role.

Not going to lie, Fernandinho started off at City looking overrated to me but under Pep he has been fantastic. Positionally his game has come on, I'd say hes probably one of the top midfield players in the PL. City lack something when he doesnt play. They will miss him when he leaves or retires too because hes early 30s and wont be at the top level for that much longer. I think its fair to say Fernandinho is as important to City as Kante was to us and Leicester in those PL wins. They arent maybe the most like for like players now that Kante and him ha e changed/adapted their games but their both pretty high on the list of MF players in the PL.

Oh, I think he is hugely important, absolute key to Shitty. I have been getting stick because I have said for months Pep is a fool to say his squad nreds nothing, when they literally have no true back up for Fernandinho. Look at them now, after he went down.

I just think it is laughable though to same Fernandinho as a DMF is as good as Kante. It is a wonky comparison from the start, as Kante is not even being played at DMF anymore, and Fenandinho is a DH regista, which is not at all a trad DMF.

If you played them both at traditional DMF, Kante is better by miles.

Depends on the set up too though. Hence why Kante doesnt play as a 6 here but as an 8, he'd play as an 8 at City too and not as a 6. Fernandinho is better suited as a DM in a Pep or Sarri team. Better at building the game from deeper positions. In terms of tackles, interceptions etc I agree Kante truimphs Fernandinho.
