BlueLion. 21,491
On the evidence of pre-season, Courtois should have been our starting striker and Begovic couldn't catch a cold. The grim reality is Courtois absolutely fucked up (deciding to come out was a ridiculous decision, the worst case scenario was that he stays in his goal, stays big, they score, but we keep 11 on the pitch), and Begovic actually made one or two very good saves (the save from Montero was excellent, wonderful ability to be able to reach that high from a low set position in a one-on-one, and the save from Shelvey's mishit corner was an excellent one two. Handling was excellent, some commanding catches and punches. Impressed. New favourite Chelsea goalkeeper.
lionsden 4,689
He's turning out to be a outstanding signing and that was never in doubt tbf. I'm not worried if Thibo misses the next game against City to suspension.

Would be better chasing the winner/deficit with 11 men on the pitch and just 10 because the GK did something stupid.

There's no question he had to come out, he just executed it in a silly rushed way this time.It was most definately not a 'ridiculous decision'

By coming out he challenges the striker to act quicker than he thought he would have had to, which put them under pressure. The play was good, but the execution wasn't. It's all part of the learning curve, he'll learn to time such actions better through this.

Coming out the way he did made Gomis' job an awful lot easier for him. All he had to do was ensure he was first to the ball. Stand your ground for half a second, then come out in the one-on-one whilst the defender covers on the line. As a goalkeeper he has to either a; stop the shot or b; force the striker to hesitate to give the defenders time to get back. He did neither.I'm too tired to get into the technical whys and wherefores, but put it this way, I wouldn't coach anyone to do what he did. He botched the execution of whatever he was attempting to do, and that attempt was far too early. It was a poor decision. He should have stood his ground; the worst case scenario is it goes to 2-2 and we still have 11 on the pitch.

The execution was off because he timed his run badly, he was too early. I don't agree that he should've stayed on his line, which is what I thought you ment in your initial post.Imo it's one of the areas in which he excels; he saved several certain goals (including vs Messi) coming out. Not easy to time correctly, which I obviouly don't need to tell you, being an official UEFA goalkeeping trainer

Still 1-2, 10 vs 11, fold back as a team and counterattack. At least, that was my first idea when I interpreted his gung ho charge. Alas, it's all hypothetical, sadly it is a mistake but he'll learn from it and I'll back him the next time he goes in for a one-on-one, which is a strength to his game as you rightfully assert. termninja 5,290
Good and strong performance for him that is definitely very imporant for the upcoming game against City. He does well there, it will bring him a world of confidence and will make it very tough for Tibo to return to starting 11. Good luck Asmir, time to shine! Barbara 15,149
and some people were slaughtering this fine man for a pre-season match.I don't think he can displace Tibo. If Cech couldn't, I don't honestly expect Asmir to do it, but you never know.either way we continue to have the best duo of GK in England and maybe in the continent.Well, well done. ( I like the way he commands the defense better than Tibo) Edited August 9, 2015 by Barbara

Melanicus 5,208
The only player that doesn't deserve hate after today's game. Hope Mourinho realizes that too... He should start next game as well, better than Courtois.
BlueLion. 21,491
Outstanding, could do nothing about any of the goals, IMO. Though Aguero's finish lacked pace, it was ridiculously precise and also came through a sea of legs. Would have been unsighted by that. Powerless with the Kompany header, and the Fernandinho goal was a stunner.
Amblève. 4,995
I don't think benching Asmir for Courtois should be a move that Mou should do. It would send just about the worst signal to the team and any future signing.
iseah100 5,612
Played out of his mind. Still think he'll displace Tibo. If he gets a proper chance.
