The Mak 4,459
I think Mourinho knows that the chance of him getting injured obviously increases if he were to play more. He literally has to be wrapped in cotton wool. That's why there is no real point in trying to put him in the first team; he may get a decent run and form some chemistry with, say, Ramires but he just couldn't last the season. That said, what a rotation player to have. He knows his role and he accepts it. He's another experienced head and it seems he still has a small bit of the old Essien in him. Glad to have him back. robsblubot

Phil Driver 503
He is the type of player we need for games like Newcastle and it should be at the expense of Mata or Oscar.Power and drive is the recipe you need for conditions like that. Lets be honest that was not a Chelsea performance it was one we associate with Arsenal weak and soft. Champions win battles like that in terrible conditions that are not made for pretty football. Korea 734
I think a poster mention earlier, but I really do think Essien has a problem outside of Chelsea FC, which is why hes not getting any run at all....

Or because he's not really that good anymore. He's 4th choice at CM as he should.

ChelseasMessiah 304
I think he could do a better job than Lampard in the pivot, but Mikel now is better than both. Despiadado.Maleante

Sir Mikel OBE 4,920
How did he do? I heard Egypt dominated them. Honestly speaking he was poor with the rest of them. It was understandable though. It was the swan song for Abou-trika, and the playoff was pretty much over. CHOULO19

I saw him live in the Olympics last year, always been a fan, stylistically I'd say he's Zidanesque although he plays as a SS/ACM. In his prime he was certainly the best African player for country his generation. The biggest shame was that he never got his world cup appearance. But 4 AFCON titles are not bad at all, not to mention all his continental success with Al Ahly.Anyway, back to Michael, will be great seeing him in the WC
AndersonBLUE 819
How did he do? I heard Egypt dominated them. He had an average game, not his best. Good or bad game though is irrelevant though.. playing the full 90 helped with his fitness hopefully. CHOULO19
Phil Driver 503
Hope he plays today a midfield containing Essien,Lampard and Rammy will be a good blend that will work as a unit and take the game to Southampton . 4-3-3 will work for us .
