🇬🇭 Michael Essien

I think Mourinho knows that the chance of him getting injured obviously increases if he were to play more. He literally has to be wrapped in cotton wool. That's why there is no real point in trying to put him in the first team; he may get a decent run and form some chemistry with, say, Ramires but he just couldn't last the season.

That said, what a rotation player to have. He knows his role and he accepts it. He's another experienced head and it seems he still has a small bit of the old Essien in him. Glad to have him back.

He is the type of player we need for games like Newcastle and it should be at the expense of Mata or Oscar.Power and drive is the recipe you need for conditions like that. Lets be honest that was not a Chelsea performance it was one we associate with Arsenal weak and soft. Champions win battles like that in terrible conditions that are not made for pretty football.

Honestly speaking he was poor with the rest of them. It was understandable though. It was the swan song for Abou-trika, and the playoff was pretty much over.

What a player Abou Treika is, though :worship:

Might not have gotten global fame because he never played in Europe, but he was one of the best players of his generation, certainly in Africa.

I saw him live in the Olympics last year, always been a fan, stylistically I'd say he's Zidanesque although he plays as a SS/ACM.

In his prime he was certainly the best African player for country his generation. The biggest shame was that he never got his world cup appearance.

Yeah, Egypt's luck with the WC was similar to ours with the CL. But 4 AFCON titles are not bad at all, not to mention all his continental success with Al Ahly.

Anyway, back to Michael, will be great seeing him in the WC :D
