LDN Blue 7,903
I actually think Chelsea fans have dealt with this better than expected. In Petr's first match for us, the fans were calling Carlo's name! In that sense, Thibaut is lucky. It's because he's been replaced by someone who's not exactly a downgrade. It's a lot easier to replace your heroes when there's someone as good/better in ahead of them.. The team comes first, right? If he was dropped for like Turnbull then you'd see chaos
LAM09 7,056
I think it's a certainty that he will be gone in the summer. I would love him to stay, but he's too good to be a number two for the majority of the season.

I think the amazing season that Atleti had and their defensive style, played a huge part. Petr was virtually unknown to Chelsea fans. Cech was also lucky because Cudicini's injury gave him the neutral platform with fans to showcase his talent.

I think Mourinho might honour Cech by giving him a chance, in appearances, to break this record. There's enough games left for him to do it anyway. For example if we have a PL game against a weaker team and an important CL/FAC game 3 days later, he may opt for Cech in the former. CHOULO19 24,332
Does the CS record mean that much though, what has it done for David James?, he's not going to be remembered as one of the greats.Tbf, I think that has more to do with the fact that people associated James more with the utterly horrendous haircuts than the record! Seriously speaking, obviously for Petr himself it is a huge deal like any major individual record is for top players. It ensures that his name is always mentioned whenever the record is which could be for a long time because I can't see the record being broken any time soon.It also probably makes a great case for him to be remembered as the best keeper in the history of the EPL over the likes of Schmeichel and Van Der Sar, especially that he already has the best clean sheet ratio among the "greats". James was mostly an idiot and not even a record like that was going to change that view, while for a world class player like Petr who's always played at the very top level, a record like that can change how "history" remembers him.Practically for us, it could be a factor in him deciding whether he want to move abroad or to a local team (probably a rival) in the summer. It's also nice for us fans to have a club legend of ours holding the ultimate record for his position. Bragging rights, part of history and all that....
