Jype 6,398
I can't argue something I'm not sure about makes no sense. Even still its clear Marcelo was in Jose's dog house, what do you think that was all about? What do you mean by that?Starting over 80% of the league games and playing full minutes in each of the decisive Champions League matches does not scream 'being in the dog house', at least not to me. Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
What do you mean by that?Starting over 80% of the league games and playing full minutes in each of the decisive Champions League matches does not scream 'being in the dog house', at least not to me.Coentrao was also injured. What I'm saying is Marcelo and Jose obviously didn't see eye to eye but for lack of an alternative Marcelo was played. Are you really contesting that the two of them didn't get along?Moot point anyway, if your only example of Jose not preferring his FB's to stay home is Marcelo its not exactly the most compelling argument. Having said that when you look at Luis you will see precisely what Jose wants in a FB, ball winning ability. If he gets forward it will be on a need basis and for the most part its not a need, we play counter attack against bigger teams and in most of the small games we were able to get the result with our front 4 plus one Mid. All I can tell you guys is based on what I've been told by Nick Dasovic and what I saw in one of Jose's dossier(He has one for every player in the XI but it highlights the tactical deployment of every player on the pitch) FB's don't bomb on at will unless the need is there. 20mins left in a game with no real incision. We will see more quality because Brana wasn't the best attacker, but the deployment won't change all that much.Azpi was moved to the LB position because he provided better coverage for Hazard than the now slow footed Ashley Cole. He will now go back to his natural position and with Luis will provide us with two ball winning FB's who win the ball in excellent areas to initiate counter attacks. Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
Think you're forgetting the fact that last season Ivanovic was constantly allowed to move forward and join the attack, even against the top teams. It makes sense that Filipe Luis would take over that role on the opposite side and Azpi then coming in on the right and taking a similar (defensive) role as he did on the left last season. We'll probably see Terry moving to the right CB position aswell so he can still get the extra protection from his closest fullback. We will see... I have a feeling you guys are gonna be disappointed if you think this acquisition will lead to more help for Hazard going forward.
Sidzeret 2,257
I disagree. I think for the majority of times (against inferior teams which we'll face more often than not) they'll support our attackers to build play, and not only provide a solid platform.I'm very certain our fullbacks will be more involved in general play next season. Mou will not be as conservative next season as he was in the last.Damn straight. Probably one of the reasons we weren't able to break down tight defences was the lack of involvement of our FB. Pretty sure Jose spent big money on him to address that issue.
Belgiannutt 3,201
We will see... I have a feeling you guys are gonna be disappointed if you think this acquisition will lead to more help for Hazard going forward. Don't really get why you think that. Why else would we have bought Filipe Luis ? If Mourinho was happy with the way it was don't you think he would have just kept Azpi and Ivanovic as his first choice fullbacks ?The fact that he bought Filipe Luis seems to be a clear indication (to me atleast) that he wants something different from that left back position then what he got from Azpi. What he wants is balance down both flanks. With Luis and Azpi you get similar characteristics and the ability to win the ball in excellent areas to counter attack.I could be wrong, not professing to be a know it all I just think Jose is the type of manager who thinks about building stability from the back to build attacks. Luis provides that and also has the ability to get forward if the need presents itself.

Popular Post! DavidEU 2,023 Posted July 18, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted July 18, 2014 On 16 July 2014, Chelsea and Atlético Madrid agreed a fee of £15.8 million for the transfer of Filipe LuÃs, subject to personal terms. The player signed a three-year contract, on 18 July 2014. He said: "This move is a dream come true for me. I now have the opportunity to play for Chelsea, and also in the Premier League. Im very happy and looking forward to getting started and giving my best for the team during the coming seasons".Filipe LuÃs made his debut in a pre-season friendly against Wolfsberger AC, on 23 July 2014. His squad number was confirmed as 3, replacing Ashley Cole who moved to AS Roma soon before Filipe LuÃs' arrival. In Chelsea's first match of the league season, away to Burnley, Filipe LuÃs was an unused substitute with César Azpilicueta playing at left back. He expressed that he was content to be second choice behind Azpilicueta if Chelsea were playing well, comparing his situation to the team's experienced goalkeeper Petr ÄŒech who had been benched for Thibaut Courtois.Filipe LuÃs made his debut in Chelsea's third league match, playing the last 7 minutes of a 63 win at Everton in place of Eden Hazard on 30 August. He started for the first time on 17 September, playing the entirety of a 11 home draw against Schalke 04 in Chelsea's first game of the Champions League group stage. Filipe LuÃs made his first league appearance in six weeks on 18 October, brought on by José Mourinho after Azpilicueta had been sent off in the first half at Crystal Palace; Chelsea went on to win 21. With Azpilicueta suspended, Filipe Luis started a Premier League match for the first time eight days later, a 11 draw away to Manchester United. His first goal for Chelsea came on 16 December 2014, a 25-yard free-kick in a 31 League Cup quarter-final win away to Derby CountyClick here to view the record I_Just_Blue_Myself, sdrcfc, Nero and 5 others
