Ryan Bertrand

There's no point. As it is Luis and Azpilicueta are battling that left-back role, if Luis can only get the cup games why on earth have Bertrand rotting away as usual? I'm glad he's finally found a club where he's going to get the exposure he deserves. He's always been humble about Chelsea too, so got a lot of respect for him. He'll always leave us with a Champions League Winners Medal and no-one can take that away from him.

remember he is HG some on here were willing to pay £30 mill for a HG left back

I love how it's a general assumption Azpi will just move back to right back, he's been much better at left back for Chelsea.

Whilst offering a non-existent threat and slowing down our attacking play. I love Azpi, he's defensively impeccable but against most teams we face this season, we need more from our left full back.

The games he played at RB were great from him too. Equaly good in defence, but better going forward.

Mou also brought Luis for quite some money. He sure thought Luis will play left and Azpi right sooner or later. He would never pay that big money for LB sub.

But Luis didnt adjust yet and Iva got in top form. Not because Mou prefers Iva or wants Azpi on left...

He is doing brilliant and finaly got run where he can prove people wrong. Good player and maybe just maybe we will get him back once Luis is too old and Azpi gets back to RB. IF.

But for now, I want Ryan to stay there because he is playing well and he would be benched here again, something he doesnt deserve. But kinda proves again, that we have little patience for our youth players and always need to buy more and more players when we already have decent ones here.

Dunno, whenever he played for us he was more good than bad. Never realy excellent or stand out, but ffs, he got limited oportunities and even when given, his role was minimal.

I love how he talks about our club, youth and Terry specificaly. I realy wish we had more youth english players in the club, but who would play important role too.

Well I never bought the whole Mourinho thing about youth.

His record is not that great and you know what, it's okay.

For a club as ours where we can afford to buy players it's alright.

I'm just glad that our club is not stupid enough in paying 30 million LB just because he's "English" when we have a player in that same role that ain't good enough to take over what we have.

Ryan good enough for the Saints, but not good enough to be our number one starter like it was with Ashley and currently Azpi.

Obv we shouldnt overpay for average english players, but I hope we develop at least one player who will present our identity as english club. Despite Costa, Hazard etc can be loyal, I think its a whole new joy to see your own youth develop into top player and proudly wear (chelsea) shirt, being loyal and respcted like Terry for example.

Have nothing against foreigners, but in 10 years we should at least have decent Terry replacement by now, but guess what, we dont have single english player/youth even in squad (bar Baker, but he didnt play single PL game). Kinda sad. Im sure if we put lot of trust and with Mou coaching, there must be english player out there who can become proper starter here. Lamps and Terry werent world class from beggining but they got a chance and trust and become world class.

Nowdays we just buy buy if we need to instead of giving kids some chance. Price to get trophies and good results every year is high unfortunely...

I will put it straight. This is crucial season, after trophyless season last year. Jose will not survive another trophyless season one, I believe. This season, no way he will gamble putting a lot of young players, leave alone 'force' English one in the squad.

If this season we win PL or CL or both. I'm sure he will put more English players in the squad and giving more chance for them next season.

Azpi is one of the major reason we are playing this well. He is the guy who is tactical excellent and that is the reason he is playing and is one of the most important player in our team. Also him going forward, not like he can't, you must have balanced team and not everyone can attack. That's why Iva is bombing forward.

I'm of the opinion that if Azpilicueta was swapped with Filipe Luis at this instant, it won't make a shred of difference to our performances or the level of the team. Infact, we'll have even more balance as we're playing a natural left back in his natural role. Azpilicueta has done well there but he's a limited player in that position. He's also not as infallible defensively as he's made out to be but that's another story.

Is that because he is not good going forward or was it instructions? Ivan practically plays like a winger half the time so it would make sense for the team balance if Azpi was told to sit. The few times he has gone forward last season he has hardly been this non existent forward player, as emphasised by his assist to Costa vs Villa and his run vs Liverpool which set up the winner.

At the start of the season i thought it would only be a matter of time before Luis won the place and after Cesar's red against Palace i thought he gave it to Felipe on a silver plate, however it hasn't quite worked out like that and since Cesar's return we have gone back to our form from September after a dodgy(ish) period between the Palace and Marinbor away game were we were grinding out the results.

Things can change pretty quickly but right now the current back four is the best back four, in my opinion.

He was good at right back, but personally i believe he has got to the extra level since going to left back.

and like i said to MrExcalibur100, i think him not being as good going forward from left back is more down to instructions given Ivan's freedom on the right.

Well he is better because he played more time there and is generaly becoming better player.

But if he is given one season on RB again, he will be even better IMO. Afterall he plays RB for spain too.

Brilliant finish, that. He just continues to impress. He really has been on of the key players of not the key player for Soton this year. Will be a big miss for them on Sunday and hopefully we can take advantage of that.

I still can't figure out what Jose didn't like in this kid. Chelsea lad & played a part in one of the Club's Biggest moments. I hope we don't let him go.

Beats me, but if he couldn't get minutes when Ash, the only other LB in the team, fell out of favor with Jose, then he definitely should move on now that we've bought Luis and Azpi has established himself as one of the best LBs in the world.
