Chelsea close in on former Liverpool ace

New Chelsea Jose Mourinho boss is closing in on the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Mourinho had given up hope of bringing the Spanish international with him to West London from the Spanish capital but Real’s interest in signing Real Sociedad star Asier Illarramendi could pave the way for Alonso’s exit.

The 31 year old is still considered one of the best central midfield men in the world and would fill a void in the Chelsea side that was filled by the likes of David Luiz, Ramires and John Obi Mikel last season.

Mourinho is wasting no time in forming his own side at Stamford Bridge as he looks to thrust the Blues back into the title race this season.

Alonso still has a lot of affection towards Liverpool where he made his name under Rafa Benitez but a final chance to get a big move under his belt may be too hard to turn down.

Daily Star is very unreliable but Alonso rumours have been on and off all summer. Wouldn't be surprised if this happens

It won't happen, at least this year.

They ar close to signing Illaramendi! He is a replacement for Xabi, i guess! Alonso will be a free agent next year as well, so i think Madrid might be tempted to sell him! Carlo is also looking to buy Verrati according to various reports!

His career is that of one of the biggest underachievers in domestic football. That's reason enough to join us. You win cups every single season here. 1 league title in his career is shocking.
