Comparing squad situation in 04/05 and now

Yo, sup bitchez...

I'm writing an article about sitation of our squad in 2004/05 season, when Mou took over and won PL in his first season and situation we have right now.

Right now you may be like 5999-confused-nicholas-guta.gif

Why the fuck would anyone compare our squad with squad we had 9 years ago?! Manager should make a starting eleven according to the players we have and blah, blah, blah...

But you never know. Maybe Mou looks in the past and sees how succesful 2004/05 squad was and tries to apply certain tactics from that to this squad.

Soooooooo...

Our starting eleven looked like this. In before some smartass tries to tell me that Robben played in place of Duff, I took this from wikipedia so 6006-deal-with-it.gif

As you can see we played 433, but what's interesting here is the midfield.

It consists of:

  • Defensive midfielder and a damn good one.
  • Box to box midfielder
  • Goalscoring CAM

So, let's start our analysis...

GK: Cech = Cech, nothing to discuss really. In future this one will be Courtois.

RB: Ferreira = Azpilicueta, really similar players, both really solid in defence and provide treath in attacking situations. I actually believe Mou can develop Azpi in the best RB in Europe.

RCB: Carvalho = Luiz, both like attacking, but they're also great defenders, who are, if disciplined, one of the best players in starting eleven. In their vessels there is passionate latino blood, so discipline is even more of big task for Mourinho to deal with.

LCB: Terry = Cahill. If we look at the squad we have it's Cahill, Ivanovic will probably be sold to Monaco, so I don't count him. But if we look around the world, I think Papa would be a great option for this spot. I believe he and Luiz would form a great partnership.

LB: Gallas =/= Cole. We really don't need CB in LB position anymore. I believe Mou will stick with Cole, but if not there are alwys your Coentrao's and Baines' out there.

CDM: Mak =/= anybody. Simply, there is no player like Mak anymore. So, we need to search for second best option. If we look at our squad, the first man who comes up to your mind is Mikel, but with recent rumours, I wouldn't count on him. So I think we should buy De Rossi, 'cause he's my favorite player bitchez. Haha, no really he's perfect for this role. If not, that French guy who plays in Spain or Matuidi could also do the job.

CM: Tiago = Ramires. If you can think of any more Mourinhoesque player than Ramires you deserve a cookie. Nobody actually knows what Rami is one (some suggest exstasy, some cocain), but it must be really something good, 'cause he has damn load of energy.

CAM: Lampard = De Bruyne/Oscar. I believe Mata will be sold. Don't ask me why, that's just my feeling. So De Bruyne and Oscar would really be perfect for this role, especially De Bruyne who I see as Lamps' replacement and one of the most underrated talents in the world. Fuck Neymar.

RW: Cole = Hazard. They are similar players, although I don't know wheter will Hazard play on right next season? Probably wings will be swapped. Hazard will play on left and.......

.....Schurrle on right.

Yeah, LW: Duff = Schurrle. Another typical Mourinhoesque player. Speeding around the defenders, cutting in and smashing it with a fucking hammer-foot.

ST: Gudjohnsen = Lukaku/Cavani. This is a tough one. I honestly can't see us spending so much money on Cavani, but if we do, I'm 10000% sure it will be worth it. He would beast under Mou even more. If not, we always have our big African fridge that Lukaku is.

That's it. If you like it rep (that's rethorical statement of course). If not, go fuck cactus.

Peace...

Good analysis, but i highly doubt mata or ivanovic will be sold.

Also Luiz and Cahill are only half as good as Terry and carvalho

Chelsea has much more potential in the attack now with Schurlle, Oscar, Mata, Hazard, and i assume Cavani as well.

But please lets not even dare compare Luiz to prime Carvalho who at 31 was making Pepe look like a scrub, and did a tremendous job for about a half season at Madrid. The guy runs funny but he had class this carvalho.

You Cant Compare that centerback partnership or that midfield to what you have now.

Midfield is non existant the way i see it as you cant really build a project good enough to win anything without having a midfield with substance.

In Any case, the current squad has potential but in no way would i take it over that chelsea squad of then.

We will have to see how it works out because if mourinho plays a 4-2-3-1 debryune is not playing in the pivot lol.

And i dont see in what world it would make sense to sell Mata. If mou sells mata then its because hes incompetent enough to not be able to find a place for him or help him develop more as a player.

All you need is to find a good pivot if mourinho plays 4-2-3-1

You go to french league and you will find the young CM veratti, and you can pair him up with Gonalons.

Or go for the Bender in Leverkusen and pair him up with Gundogan.

There's illaramendi as well.... Have not seen enough of Van Ginkel

Europe will be in pursuit of Konodgbia,Gonalons, Gundogan, Illaramendi, bender/s, shortly.

Heck dont know why the hell chelsea didnt go crazy for Thiago.

Get Coentrao on Left, a new CB, De Rossi or Kondobiga (albeit i see the possibility as slim for either), Ramires, and maybe De Bruyne or Oscar in the lampard role, Hazard, Cavani, and work with Mata in a few areas, and you could replicate a similar shape, specially considering Cavani's talents.

Considering the players he has in his disposal, going with a 4-3-3 Could be an option, in that case what mourinho would need would be a powerful midfielder destroyer like Makalele.

Time will tell. This is up for some debate. but in any case i never like seeing teams with as little real producers in the midfield as ramires, or a DM thats not surrounded by guys Like Zidane,Figo, and Concecao as Makalele was in Real Madrid, but this is mourinho we are talking about.

But Mourinho had a perfect mourinho team at his disposal if there ever was one.

He doesn't quite have that atm.

Some smart aquisitions and the possibilities for chelsea are vast.

What you want in a team is ability to adapt to situations, so that you arent one dimensional.

The 04/05 team was a freak, it was one of the most compete teams off all time, we will have to spend upwards of £200m to get a team even remotely close. They were a level above even Arsenal's invincible's and the reason people won't say that is because Arsenal went unbeaten, if RVN tucked away the pen it wouldn't even be debatable.

04 team clearly the best hands down.

Debate over and let's see how this lot now does.

That 04-05 side never had Champions in it though. This Chelsea side has a lot of players who have done it before and they don't have that barrier !

No disrespect or anything, but i dont think the players you think will be sold, will be sold. I also think Jose has changed in his approach, 04/05 saw us with quite defensive FB's. these days its all about the attacking FB's and Jose was all for that at Madrid. Also, i would argue that the players we have today ARE better than those back then. of couse the ones that are still with us have deteriated a bit, but the main thing we had back then was good team spirit and strong tactics. This season, we have the better players, we just need them to be tactically sound, and thats where Jose will come in!

secondly i thought this might look at the entire squad, and go in to detail on the depth available and the quality of that depth from this season compared to the 04/05 season, that would be a very interesting read!

The only major difference that separates the 2 teams is that we had a world class lampard and JT. Our defence was extremely solid and makelele was the greatest holding mid.

I don't think we were better in an attacking sense. Ok we had a better striker. But it was defensively where the gap is right now.

well there are some parts of 04 team I love way more than what we have today, but I think we have the best CAM we've ever had since I became a fan in 2002... (can't say before that).

I still prefer the 2004 team over the current because if there's one thing I value in a squad is it being solid and unfortunately we haven't been solid with the current squad yet. We had ups and downs that were both very extreme.

But I do think Mourinho can make the current team a solid one and for it to compare to 2004 I think we need three more players (not 200M): a world class FB, a solid DLP and a remarkable striker.

Mourinho could work with the boys we have and develop that DLP (although I think it'd be a waste as those boys are too good as CAM or wingers).

I'm still super excited about next season.

Cech is Cech.

Azpi could be top RB indeed, but not yet. Two years to reach that at least.

Luiz is good footballer but honestly NOT good defender. Defender is someone who excels in tackling, marking and is trustworthy. Luiz excels in other areas like long shots, long passes, ball control etc. He might have few good games in defence, but isnt stable for whole season. But with a good partner it could work.

Terry/Iva. Both are past it and older, but in case we dont get any other cb, we should play Iva who is still very good. Cahill will remain sub. If we go for replacement, it MUST be Howedes. True leader and perfect age. Experience and classy simple defender. Papa is way too agressive to play along Luiz. And unexperienced. Maybe in few years but now he is 21. And imagine 21yrs old cb and Luiz? ...

Cole is fine. Shaw/de sciglio/Alex Sandro to replace him.

CDM: Should be De Rossi, Witsel or Kondogbia. Perhaps even Romeu if he returns to old form.

Mata will stay but doesnt fit 4:3:3

Oscar and Kdb will fight for other position.

Schurrle one wing and Hazard other.

Lukaku main forward.
